Lepas is another automotive brand poised for an official launch in the Malaysian market.
To strengthen its brand presence, Lepas has implemented several initiatives that combine culture, community, and global engineering strengths.
Initiative for Children’s Raya Outfits
One such initiative involves collaboration with internationally renowned local fashion designer Karl Ho.
This partnership has produced special Raya outfits for children from the following welfare homes:
Pertubuhan Baitul Asnaf Sendayan
Yayasan Kasih Sayang Kuala Pilah
Pusat Jagaan Anak Yatim Kausar Senawang
Each outfit has been specially crafted in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.
Lepas: More Than Just a Mobility Brand
According to Sarah Choo, Senior Director of the Lepas brand in Malaysia, Lepas is not merely a mobility brand.
“We are building a brand that reflects the spirit of Malaysians, who uplift and support one another.”
For Karl Ho, this collaboration reinforces a designer’s responsibility to foster confidence.
“Through our partnership with Lepas, we use specialized craftsmanship not only to create Raya clothing but also to instill pride and aspiration in the younger generation.
“When a child wears something that is made specifically for them, it strengthens their confidence in realizing their potential,” he explained further.
The Malay Word as the Foundation of Brand Philosophy
This initiative reflects Lepas’s belief that mobility is not just about movement but about driving progress and elevating community dignity.
The name “Lepas” itself is derived from the Malay word meaning “to release” or “to move forward.”
This becomes the foundation of the LEAP brand philosophy, which inspires individuals to transcend boundaries and embrace the future.
Three New Models
Lepas is set to introduce three new SUV models built on the global NEV (New Energy Vehicle) platform from Chery: the L4, L6, and L8.
This platform supports various vehicle sizes and powertrains, including internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric models.
Globally, the brand has already established a presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Malaysia is among the earliest right-hand drive (RHD) markets in their regional expansion strategy.
Here, Lepas aims to carve a distinct position in the SUV landscape by balancing innovation, design, and community value.
Since its introduction in 2020, the Toyota GR Yaris has undergone significant changes both inside and out.
Following the launch of the facelift version in 2024, Toyota has now announced the ‘Type 26’ model.
Similar to its predecessors, the new version features enhancements drawn from experiences in motorsport.
New GR Steering Wheel
Among the notable changes in the 2026 GR Yaris is a completely redesigned steering wheel aimed at ensuring better control.
Due to the switch placement on the previous steering wheel, some drivers complained about their inability to position their hands in the ideal location.
With input from professional racers, Toyota developed a prototype steering unit and tested it on actual race tracks.
As a result, the steering wheel now features a smaller diameter for improved responsiveness, along with a left and right grip design that is more comfortable when navigating corners.
The switch layout on the steering wheel is now individually positioned for easier operation, enhanced by ring lighting for better visibility at night.
Additionally, the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has been recalibrated for more precise and consistent handling in various driving conditions.
New High-Performance Tires
The Toyota GR Yaris trim RZ High Performance + Aero Performance Package and the RZ High Performance trim now come standard with Bridgestone Potenza Race tires.
These newly developed tires offer a revised tread pattern, internal structure, and rubber compound.
They have also undergone rigorous testing to deliver high grip performance over extended periods.
The optimized damping characteristics at the front and rear axles contribute to maximum tire performance.
Added Features: Heated Steering Wheel and Seats
Customers of the 2026 Toyota GR Yaris can now opt for a heated steering wheel and seats by choosing the vertical parking brake option along with the Navigation Package or Comfort Package.
The Toyota GR Yaris continues to feature the G16E-GTS engine, capable of generating 304 PS at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 400 Nm at 3,250-4,600 rpm.
This hot hatch can be paired with a 6-speed iMT transmission or an 8-speed Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT).
The selling price of the Toyota GR Yaris starts at 3,617,200 yen (approximately RM89,255) for the RC iMT version and goes up to 5,882,200 yen (approximately RM145,144) for the RZ High Performance + Aero Performance Package with DAT.

“Besides the appearance, the existing maintenance support in Malaysia provides peace of mind. It’s stylish, practical, and fits my budget.”
Another customer, Christine, remarked, “Since receiving our Bingo EV, we have really enjoyed it. It has ample space, an air conditioning system suitable for our hot weather, and excellent driving capability.”
“For daily use, it’s the perfect choice. What’s impressive is the affordable price and how easy it is to maneuver in traffic.”
ADAS as a Standard Feature
Along with the first deliveries, TQ Wuling also announced that the CKD Bingo EV comes equipped with ADAS features as standard for both variants.
Some of the ADAS features included are:
Blind Spot Warning (BSW)

Low Speed Pedestrian Warning
Door Opening Warning (DOW)
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
The Bingo EV also includes automatic windshield wipers, a lock/unlock system when approaching, and an automatic unlock system after impact.
Furthermore, the Bingo EV comes with six airbags, making Malaysia the first market to receive this configuration.

The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) has officially revoked the five-star rating for the newly launched 2026 Proton X90.
The SUV is now rated only one star due to the removal of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the updated model.
In 2023, the Proton X90 received a five-star rating with an overall score of 83.79 points, covering the following performance areas:
Adult Passenger Protection (37.75/40.00)
Child Protection (17.79/20.00)
Safety Assistance (15.71/20.00)
Motorcycle Rider Safety (12.50/20.00)
Reduction in safety features
ASEAN NCAP found that a significant portion of the ADAS technology assessed in 2023 has been removed from the X90 2026, including:
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
Under the ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 Protocol, a vehicle’s star rating will be limited if it performs poorly in any single category.
The removal of these technologies caused the Safety Assistance (SA) score to drop to a four-star level.
Meanwhile, the Motorcycle Rider Safety (MS) category, which heavily relies on Blind Spot Detection, has drastically fallen to one star.
As a result, the overall rating for the Proton X90 is now limited to just one star.
2023-2025 Proton X90 still rated five stars
ASEAN NCAP confirmed that the X90 models manufactured between 2023 and 2025 still retain their five-star rating.
This is because the mentioned models are still equipped with the ADAS technologies mandated by the 2021-2025 evaluation protocols.
According to Prof. Madya Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Zaharah binti Ishak, the Director-General of MIROS, “We are deeply disappointed by Proton’s decision to remove life-saving ADAS technologies from this new facelift model.
“To protect consumers and maintain the integrity of safety standards, we had no choice but to revoke the five-star rating.
“This serves as a reminder to all manufacturers: safety is not something to be compromised.
“Do not sacrifice proven safety technologies for mere external luxury, such as infotainment systems or leather upholstery,” she added.
Ts. Yahaya Ahmad, the Technical Head of ASEAN NCAP, further stated, “Blind Spot Detection (BSD) is a critical weighting factor in our Motorcycle Safety (MS) category.
“The removal of it, along with other advanced aids, has stripped away the points that previously granted the X90 its highest rating.
“ASEAN NCAP will continue to monitor all evaluated manufacturers, and we will not hesitate to revoke the ratings of any brand that neglects vehicle safety after assessments are made.”
