It may be hard to believe, but here is the first electric vehicle (EV) from Ferrari, the Ferrari Luce.
This Ferrari features a non-aggressive design, four doors, and lacks the iconic roar of an engine typically associated with the Prancing Horse brand.
All-New Platform
The Ferrari Luce is built on a completely new platform, measuring 5,026 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,544 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,961 mm.
One of the key elements for any EV is a low drag coefficient; the Luce EV boasts an impressive drag coefficient as low as 0.254 Cd.
This figure was achieved through its sleek body panel design which avoids aggressive lines, and even redesigned windshield wipers.
Collaborative Design Effort
The overall design of the Ferrari Luce was a collaborative effort between Centro Stile Ferrari and LoveFrom firm founded by Jony Ive, the designer of the first-generation iPhone.
The front design is subtle, complemented by round dual tail lights encircled in black trim.
The wheel sizes are the largest ever fitted on a Ferrari, measuring 23 inches at the front and 24 inches at the rear.
Four Electric Motors
The Ferrari Luce EV is equipped with four electric motors developed in-house based on the F80 program, utilizing F1 technology and endurance racing innovations.
Each rear motor produces 476 hp, while the front motors deliver 141 hp each.
There are four E-Manettino modes:
Range: 430 hp RWD
Tour: 617 hp AWD
Performance: 986 hp AWD
Launch Control: 1,050 hp
In Launch Control mode, the Luce EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
The top speed is limited to 260 km/h in Range mode, and can reach up to 310 km/h in Performance mode.
800V Battery System
The 122 kWh battery pack was developed in partnership with SK On, featuring DC fast charging capability of up to 350 kW.
As part of the chassis structure, the center of gravity of the Luce EV is 94 mm lower than that of the Purosangue.
With the addition of a rear-wheel steering feature, the handling of the Luce EV is said to be comparable to that of the 296 GTB.
An EV With Sound
Due to the absence of an internal combustion engine, the Ferrari Luce EV cannot produce the fierce sounds typical of other Ferraris.
For the Luce, there is no fake sound package.
However, Ferrari has included a sound generation unit that captures real vibrations from moving components.
This patented system filters out undesirable frequencies and generates sound in a manner similar to an electric guitar, enhancing the driving experience.
Spacious Cabin for Five
We have previously glimpsed the minimalist cabin layout of the Luce, featuring the design of an iPhone designer.
Despite the presence of modern screens, Ferrari has incorporated physical function buttons and levers for straightforward driving operations.
As the largest Ferrari model, the Luce EV comfortably accommodates five passengers.
Additional features include a massage function, a 3,000W sound system with 21 built-in speakers, and more luxurious interior finishes.
A unique aspect of the Luce EV is the existence of paddle shifters, which are not intended for simulating gear shifts. According to Ferrari, these components are designed to control torque distribution (right paddle) and regenerative braking levels (left paddle) with five adjustments.
Pricing
The starting price for the Ferrari Luce EV is around €550,000 (approximately RM2.5 million), exclusive of optional features and personal customization.
The much-anticipated hybrid sedan, the Toyota Vios HEV GR Sport has finally hit the Malaysian market.
It was officially launched by UMW Toyota Motor earlier this year, priced at RM109,900 for the hybrid GR Sport version. This is only RM6,000 more than the standard 1.5 HEV model, or RM13,000 above the petrol version of the Vios.
Unlike previous offerings of the Vios GR Sport, this new model comes with an essential component—a hybrid heart.
Hybrid vehicles are often closely associated with fuel savings, so what benefits does the Vios HEV GR Sport offer?
Differences Between Vios HEV and the Standard Version
The standard Vios is equipped with a 1.5L 2NR-VE engine that produces 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
In contrast, the hybrid Vios features a fourth-generation hybrid system that includes:
1.5L 2NR-VEX Atkinson cycle engine, 91 PS at 5,500 rpm, 121 Nm at 4,000 rpm
Electric motor: 80 PS/141 Nm
Lithium-ion battery pack, 4.3 Ah
e-CVT transmission
The total power output is approximately 111 PS, which drives the front wheels.
On paper, the power increase isn’t drastic. However, the electric motor provides a more vigorous initial acceleration compared to the petrol model. The benefit? You can accelerate more quickly from highway exits to merge into the main traffic flow.
While engine noise is still present when the pedal is pressed to the floor, the cabin gradually quiets down once your desired speed is achieved.
Enhanced Driving Experience
It’s not just the power boost that makes this sedan feel more exciting. The Vios HEV GR Sport features a more responsive and slightly heavier EPS steering system compared to the standard model. This makes handling feel more stable, especially at higher speeds.
The braking system has also been tuned for earlier engagement, meaning you won’t have to slam on the brakes and hope the car comes to a complete stop.
What’s most appreciated is the GR Sport suspension tuning. Compared to the regular Vios, which is already a pleasure to drive, the sportier suspension setup gets two thumbs up automatically. As with any GR Sport model I’ve tested before, this Vios strikes a perfect balance between sporty driving dynamics and comfort.
Adding to this, the Vios HEV GR Sport is fitted with Continental PremiumContact C tires that provide enhanced grip—like a delicious lunch made even better with sambal tempoyak and fresh ulam to enhance the flavor.
Thanks to the harmonious interplay of these systems, drivers can enjoy a more thrilling driving experience without breaking the bank. Not all enjoyment comes solely from horsepower; sometimes, a simple and harmonious setup can bring a smile.
Words alone can hardly capture the exceptional joy offered by the Vios HEV GR Sport; you need to experience it for yourself.
Hybrid with EV-Like Behavior
A notable advantage of this model is its ability to drive in zero-emission mode. Although it lacks a larger battery pack, Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid system allows for operation without a drop of petrol under certain conditions.
This function is particularly useful in urban settings or when searching for parking in shopping centers. I especially appreciate the percentage display of zero-emission driving recorded every time the vehicle is turned off. This feature encourages more mindful and economical driving.
Engine vibrations are also minimal, especially during transitions between power and EV modes.
Cabin Features
Inside, the Vios HEV GR Sport comes equipped with:
Leather/fabric seats
10.1-inch Display Audio screen, larger than before
EV Mode button
64-color ambient lighting
Hybrid-specific display for the digital cluster
Based on my experience, this brand-new display offers stable functionality, including support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, its large (and tall) size may obstruct the driver’s view if they prefer a lower seating position.
After all, this is a sporty car; you wouldn’t want to sit like it’s an SUV, right?
The leather/fabric seats are comfortable for long journeys and hold drivers securely during spirited driving. The button clusters on the steering wheel and center console are user-friendly. However, the 360-degree camera system feels outdated, especially due to its non-HD resolution for 2026.
Practicality
Due to the relocation of the 12V battery to the rear, the cargo space in the Vios HEV GR Sport is limited to 460 liters. This is adequate for daily necessities but may not suffice for longer items, as the rear seats do not fold like in other sedan models.
The good news is that the Vios HEV GR Sport now comes with a full-size spare tire in the rear, a feature highly valued by many drivers in Malaysia.
Safety Features
As standard, the Vios HEV GR Sport includes six airbags and Toyota Safety Sense features:
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Forward Movement Warning (FMW)
High Beam Assist (HBA)
Blind Spot Monitoring System (BSM)
Conclusion
The Toyota Vios HEV GR Sport is not just a Vios with a GR emblem slapped on it. Compared to its competitors, it offers a more convincing driving experience, a hybrid system proven for its efficiency, and a balance of sporty driving and comfort.
It’s perfect for those seeking a daily sedan infused with a bit of extra character to make life more exciting. Life is too short to enjoy boring things (read: cars), making this ‘sportiest sedan’ a worthy consideration.

Most of us know Xpeng as an emerging automotive company from Guangzhou.
But did you know that in just 12 years, the brand with the ‘X’ logo has made significant strides into the future, becoming one of the most aggressive technology players today?
Our recent visit to Xpeng’s headquarters in Guangzhou confirmed that Xpeng is not just a brand with a lineup of sophisticated and futuristic cars.
Brief History of Xpeng
Xpeng is one of the startups founded in 2014.
Their first model, the Xpeng G3, debuted in 2018 but the company gained traction with the launch of the electric sedan P7 aimed to compete with the Tesla Model 3.
Today, Xpeng has a broader and more advanced range of models including sedans (Mona M03, P7 & P7+), MPVs (X9), and SUVs (G6, G7, G9 & GX).
Their current focus is on three main pillars: the humanoid robot IRON, the flying car Aridge, and the intelligent driving system VLA 2.0.
IRON – The Next Generation Humanoid Robot
In addition to their lineup of advanced vehicles, our visit was also ‘greeted’ by a humanoid robot dubbed IRON.
Unlike the first generation of IRON (2024), the new generation features several improvements that enable it to mimic human movements.
Features of the IRON robot:
Weight: 65 kg
Height: 173 cm
82 Degrees of Freedom (DOF), including 22 DOF for the arms alone
Bionic skeletal and muscle structure for more natural movement
Customizable based on body shape and gender
Thanks to the use of solid-state batteries, IRON has a slimmer appearance compared to other, bulkier humanoid robots.
Initially, this robot will be used as an assistant on Xpeng’s production line.
In the future, its use is expected to expand into commercial and industrial sectors.
Aridge – The Flying Car Division
Formerly known as Xpeng AeroHT, Aridge represents Xpeng’s effort to become a global leader in the low-altitude mobility segment.
With the mission “Freedom to Fly,” Aridge is committed to creating smart and safe solutions that everyone can enjoy through technology and innovation.
Aridge also has R&D infrastructure in Guangzhou, advanced laboratories in Shanghai, and a 35,000-square-meter production center.
Among the products from Aridge that caught our attention were:
Land Aircraft Carrier
This is a combination of a 6×6 transport van called the “Mothership” and a flying car module (eVTOL).
You only need a standard driving license to operate this six-wheeled van.
It offers a range of over 1,000 km, features a six-wheel drive system, a rear-wheel steering system, and a cabin that can accommodate four people at a time.
The eVTOL module features foldable arms and blades, making it more compact and storable in the rear of the Mothership.
With 800V charging technology, the Mothership van can recharge the eVTOL up to six times while out.
A868
This is classified as a ‘flying car’ with the largest body size among eVTOLs displayed at the Aridge showroom.
Not much information has been shared, except that it features a hybrid system with a flight range exceeding 500 km.
The A868 can carry up to six passengers and achieve flight speeds exceeding 360 km/h.
It can also take off and land vertically without the need for long runways like conventional passenger aircraft.
VLA 2.0 – Intelligent Driving Technology
VLA 2.0 is the architecture of the new generation of intelligent driving technology by Xpeng used in the XNGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) system.
The VLA (Vision-Language-Action Model) integrates vision, language understanding, and action control, receiving visual input and generating commands directly.
Some advantages of VLA 2.0 include its potential to achieve Level 4 autonomous driving comparable to Tesla’s FSD system without relying on HD mapping.
It also offers faster responses, more natural movements with high precision, and the ability to make smarter decisions.
Using real-world simulation training, this system can detect surrounding objects in detail, such as pedestrians, electric scooters, other vehicles, and traffic lights.
Currently, VLA 2.0 is utilized in the XPENG GX Robotaxi, with plans for global expansion by 2027.
Turing AI Chip – A “Brain” for All
A commonality among the IRON, Aridge, and VLA 2.0 is that they all share the same “brain,” namely the Turing AI processing chip.
This 40-core processing chip has performance equivalent to three Nvidia Drive Orin X chips, with computing power of 750 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second).
It also includes two Neural Processing Units (NPU) for large-scale AI and Visual Language Models.
In the IRON robot and Xpeng P7+, three Turing AI chips are used with processing capabilities of up to 2,250 TOPS.
Meanwhile, the Robotaxi uses four chip units with processing capabilities of 3,000 TOPS for autonomous operations.
With a shared “brain,” Xpeng can build a truly integrated mobility ecosystem while simultaneously reducing development costs.
Xpeng is Not Just an Electric Car Manufacturer
The opportunity to visit Xpeng’s headquarters in Guangzhou has truly opened our eyes to the achievements of this brand that is only 12 years old.
Xpeng is no longer just an electric vehicle manufacturer; they are now a technology giant that is shaping the future of mobility.
With the IRON robot technology, Aridge flying cars, and the VLA 2.0 system, Xpeng is now far ahead of its competitors.
