Last month, Mitsubishi stunned the automotive world with its plans to revive the iconic Pajero nameplate. The announcement was met with widespread approval from those eager to see the Mitsubishi brand rise again.
After the Pajero, could the Lancer Evolution be next?
During the company’s 57th Annual General Meeting held recently, shareholders also proposed that Mitsubishi bring back other legendary nameplates, including the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant. According to Keisuke Kishiura, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, these three models hold significant importance for the company.
“We consider the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant to be part of our heritage,” he said.
“At present, we do not have any concrete plans to reintroduce these models. However, our goal is to build a company that is capable of producing such exceptional cars again in the future.”
Could Mitsubishi Return to the WRC?
Another pressing question raised during the meeting concerned Mitsubishi’s potential return to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) as a manufacturer team. Mitsubishi was once a dominant force in global rallying before officially withdrawing from the series in 2005.
Kishiura admitted that rejoining the WRC as a manufacturer remains one of his personal dreams. “As I have already stated, there are no firm plans at this moment,” he explained. “But I want to transform Mitsubishi Motors into a company that can compete on the world stage in major events like the WRC in the future.”
President’s First Car Was a Lancer Turbo
On a more personal note, Kishiura revealed that the first car he ever drove as a student was a Lancer Turbo.
“Personally, I just love driving,” he shared. “The first car I drove in my student days wasn’t actually a Lancer Evolution—it was a worn-out Lancer Turbo, a manual with heavy steering. It was rear-wheel drive, but I adored driving it up to ski resorts. Even now, I still simply love driving.”

The Mitsubishi Xforce 2026 arrives at a time when the subcompact SUV (B segment) market in Malaysia is increasingly crowded and competitive.
Based on our initial brief test drive, it is clear that this new model is not merely trying to ride the wave of SUV popularity.
The question is: How will the Xforce stand out in a market flooded with various options from local manufacturers, as well as those from China and Japan?
Here are five aspects that captivated us about Mitsubishi Malaysia’s latest offering.
Distinctive Appearance
The Mitsubishi Xforce features a modern Dynamic Shield design approach.
With characteristics like large, sharp headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels, it’s no surprise that this SUV looks more striking and prominent on the road.
Fortunately, Mitsubishi has not followed the trend of horizontal LED light bars like many other manufacturers.
The exterior design of the Xforce also contributes to superior aerodynamics compared to its competitors.
When was the last time you saw a Mitsubishi car styled as elegantly as the Xforce?
Modern Cabin Space
In the author’s opinion, the layout of the Mitsubishi Xforce’s cockpit is one of the tidiest in the B-segment SUV category.
The menu display is easy to read, and the digital cluster screen is intentionally placed deeper, providing a more natural feel.
It doesn’t feel like you’re looking at two iPads perched on the dashboard.
What I particularly liked? The display shows the driving score reminiscent of the Pajero, complete with an airplane-style meter on the central screen.
The physical controls for the air conditioning system and drive mode switch are large and easy for drivers to reach.
Additionally, the Xforce offers quite comfortable seating in both the front and back rows, although it only has manual adjustments.
The cargo space is quite ample, around 410 liters, to accommodate daily necessities.
The next point will position the Xforce as one of the unique SUVs in its segment.
Yamaha Audio System
Unique in its segment due to an audio system specifically developed by Yamaha!
There are up to eight speakers installed in the Xforce cabin, including the following components:
25mm tweeter × 2 on the A-pillars
160mm woofer × 2
160mm/25mm co-axial × 2 for the second-row passengers
Based on our brief experience, I admit that the sound quality and output from this Yamaha audio system resonate more with me compared to competing models.
It feels like driving a much more expensive vehicle.
Evo-Inspired Driving Dynamics
This SUV is built with daily use in Southeast Asia as its main goal.
Even though it uses the Xpander platform, the Xforce features a stiffer chassis structure combined with suspension tuning better suited to local road conditions.
It’s no surprise that the Xforce offers improved driving dynamics compared to the Xpander.
It might even be better than most competitors in the market.
The secret? The Xforce received input from Masahiro Tamura, the Chief Product Engineer at MMC and a former engineer for Mitsubishi’s high-performance Lancer Evolution!
The proof lies in the presence of Active Yaw Control (AYC) to ensure more confident handling of this SUV on the road.
Body roll is minimized, and steering feedback is more precise and reassuring, even when the SUV is driven a bit aggressively through corners.
The 1.5-liter MIVEC 4A91 engine, producing 103 hp and 141 Nm, is paired with a CVT for a smoother initial driving experience.
The throttle response is light, enhanced by a reassuring braking system to ensure the SUV stops effectively.
However, it may not be suitable for those who tend to put too much weight on the accelerator since the engine response may feel lacking when extra power is needed.
In our view, the Mitsubishi Xforce is more suited for relaxed driving, fitting its character as an urban SUV. Where would you rush to?
Driving Modes for ASEAN Weather Conditions
The Mitsubishi Xforce is equipped with several driving modes including Normal, Gravel, Mud, and Wet.
Not limited to adjusting power output, the Xforce’s driving modes modify throttle response, traction control, handling, and Active Yaw Control features based on the situation.
The most useful driving mode for the current weather conditions is undoubtedly the Wet mode.
We were given the opportunity to assess this mode’s effectiveness on a road intentionally wet to simulate conditions during rain.
In normal circumstances, the SUV would skid out when speed is increased.
However, handling became much easier to control when the Wet mode was activated, and the Xforce felt more glued to the slick road.
According to Mitsubishi, this Wet mode is a new feature developed specifically for ASEAN customers in regions with high rainfall frequency.
Conclusion
The Mitsubishi Xforce is an intriguing product offered by MMM for the local market.
With a more mature design, a far more modern cabin, and tuning tailored for Southeast Asian roads, it suggests that Mitsubishi genuinely wants to return as a top choice in this class.
The Mitsubishi Xforce 2026 will be launched soon, and we believe the estimated selling price starting from RM110,000 is not a significant hurdle for avid Mitsubishi fans.

Built on precision, process discipline, and continuous improvement, these standards ensure that every Xforce produced here meets the same quality benchmarks as Mitsubishi vehicles manufactured anywhere in the world. Our priority is to deliver vehicles that embody Mitsubishi Motors’ highest global standards, giving customers confidence, reliability, and pride of ownership from the very first day.”
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia aims to deliver the first 800 units of the all-new Xforce within April, following comprehensive quality validation and production readiness checks.

For the record, the Mitsubishi Xforce has also received a five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP new vehicle crash test.
Mitsubishi Thailand has updated its popular pickup truck offerings by introducing the Street version.
This new design is unique to the Mega Cab body style and is not available for the Triton Single Cab and Double Cab variants.
The aggressive design is likely inspired by the Stormtrooper helmet from the Star Wars series, replacing the existing Dynamic Shield approach of the Triton.
Additionally, it features a larger black skid plate, a new grille design, 17-inch rims, and color options including Solid White, Blade Silver, and Graphite Gray.
The original suspension setup, which is more suited for city driving, has been retained.
The Triton Street is also powered by a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 148 hp and 330 Nm of torque, paired with a manual transmission and a rear-wheel-drive system.
Inside the cabin, it comes with fabric seats, a 10-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, and a sound system with two speakers.
Safety features include three airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Active Stability Control (ASC), Traction Control (TCL), and a Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) system.
In Thailand, the Mitsubishi Triton Street Mega Cab is priced starting at THB 649,000 (RM83,798).
Kei cars typically feature a cuter design, suited to their small size.
However, leading body kit manufacturer DAMD has come up with an idea to give kei cars a more aggressive, rugged, and stylish appearance.
For instance, the “Dali” body kit (shortened from Dakar Rally) successfully transforms the cute Mitsubishi Delica Mini into a retro machine inspired by the 1980s Pajero model.
If you notice, the new headlights resemble the design of the first-generation Pajero. Additionally, it features a square grille structure, complete with the original Mitsubishi emblem, which also houses various ADAS sensors.
The original front bumper structure of the Delica Mini has been retained, including the “DELICA” lettering and original air intakes, but it has been enhanced with special decorative elements finished in glossy black.
Importantly, all these additions do not compromise the original dimensions of the Delica Mini and still comply with the kei car regulations set by the Japanese government.
DAMD is also offering a custom side decal set, 15-inch Cantabile alloy wheels shod with Toyo Tires Open Country R/T tires, and, of course, a roof rack.
Accessories for the cabin are still in the development phase. The complete package price will be announced later.
This model will be officially showcased at DAMD’s booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, taking place this month.
The collaboration between Mitsubishi and Renault continues with the introduction of the all-new 2026 Eclipse Cross crossover for the European market.
The second generation of this Mitsubishi compact SUV is built on the Renault Scenic E-Tech platform and will only be offered as an electric vehicle (EV).
Here are some key facts about the Eclipse Cross EV:
1. Exterior Design
There are several differences to demonstrate that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is not merely a badge-engineered model.
For instance, the front now features a refreshed Dynamic Shield design, along with updated headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a redesigned bumper grille.
At the rear, the taillight graphics have been revitalized.
2. Dimensions
This C-segment SUV measures 4,470 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm.
It offers a cargo capacity ranging from 478 liters to as much as 1,670 liters when the second-row seats are folded down.
Buyers can choose futuristic 19- or 20-inch wheels.
3. Interior Space
The cabin of the Eclipse Cross EV appears to maintain Renault influences, similar to what is found in the Scenic E-Tech.
It features a 12.3-inch digital display complemented by a vertical 12.3-inch infotainment screen, complete with built-in Google support, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Other features include a 48-color ambient lighting system, Harman Kardon audio system, and a panoramic glass roof with an electrochromic function.
This means owners can adjust the light transparency to reduce glare from sunlight with the press of a single button.
4. Powertrain
The Eclipse Cross EV is based on the same Ampr Medium platform used in the Scenic E-Tech, as well as the Nissan Leaf and Ariya.
This SUV is powered by a front-wheel-drive electric motor capable of generating 215 hp.

Production of the 2026 Eclipse Cross EV will take place at the Douai factory in France starting in the fourth quarter of 2025, the same facility used for assembling Renault models (Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, R5 E-Tech), the Alpine A290, and the Nissan Micra EV.
Mitsubishi Japan has unveiled two kei car models set to launch soon: the new-generation 2025 Delica Mini and 2025 eK Space.
Reservations for both models are now open, with prices starting at approximately 1.95 million yen (RM56,000) for the Delica Mini and from 1.75 million yen (RM50,000) for the eK Space.
Delica Mini
In terms of appearance, one might assume that the second generation of the Delica Mini remains unchanged due to its identical front design. Even the dimensions haven’t changed.
However, upon closer inspection, it can be said that nearly all body panels have been redesigned.
The headlights, featuring a U-shaped graphic, are now larger, accompanied by a thicker grille structure and Dynamic Shield elements that match the body color.
The A-pillar has also become more vertical to create a roomier cabin space.
The hood, front fenders, and doors now showcase distinct body lines, while the D-pillar is thicker compared to the previous model.
According to Mitsubishi, the new Delica Mini features Kayaba Prosmooth shock absorbers, which also come with different settings for the all-wheel drive model.
Inside the cabin, the dashboard layout has been updated, featuring a seven-inch cluster screen and a central 12.3-inch screen integrated into a single panel, along with a newly designed two-spoke steering wheel.
In the center, there is a rotary dial for selecting driving modes, including Power, Normal, Eco, Gravel, and Snow.
Lastly, the Delica Mini is equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and a surround monitoring system that utilizes four camera sensors.
eK Space
The eK Space is a third-generation model introduced alongside the Delica Mini.
Unlike the Delica Mini, the eK Space presents a more elegant front without rugged elements such as body cladding and a skid plate.
The cabin layout is similarly designed to the Delica Mini, but the eK Space offers only three driving modes: Power, Normal, and Eco.
No details have been disclosed regarding the engines to be used in either the Delica Mini or the eK Space.
The previous Delica Mini was available with a choice of a naturally aspirated three-cylinder 658 cc engine producing 51 hp, or a turbo engine generating 63 hp.

After months of showcasing the DST Concept, Mitsubishi has officially launched the production model of its seven-seat SUV, now named the Destinator.
In addition to the ASEAN market, Mitsubishi plans to introduce this model in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Here are some key facts you need to know:
1. Platform
The Mitsubishi Destinator is built on the B-segment SUV platform, specifically the XForce, but features a three-row seating configuration.
Its dimensions are also larger, measuring 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, 1,780 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,815 mm.
The ground clearance stands at 214 mm, while the turning radius is approximately 5.4 meters.
Compared to the Xpander, the Destinator boasts an advantage in size, being 85 mm longer, 40 mm wider, 30 mm taller, and with a wheelbase that is 40 mm longer.
2. Engine
One aspect not shared with the Xforce model is the powertrain.
The Destinator is equipped with a 1.5-liter MIVEC turbo engine (code 4B40) capable of producing 161 hp at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm.
Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT transmission.
There are five driving modes: Wet, Tarmac, Normal, Gravel, and Mud.
3. Suspension
This SUV features a MacPherson strut suspension setup for the front axle and a simpler torsion beam for the rear axle.
However, Mitsubishi claims that the tuning for the Destinator has been adapted for road use in ASEAN.
In addition to its high ground clearance, the Destinator offers a 21-degree approach angle, a 25.5-degree departure angle, and a 20.8-degree breakover angle, facilitating driving on rough and bumpy terrains.
4. Exterior Design
The Destinator employs the concepts of Gravitas and Dynamism, highlighted by its robust body design, high ground clearance, and 18-inch wheel size.
The front end features a modern Dynamic Shield design, enhanced by T-shaped headlight housings and angular grilles.
Meanwhile, the rear introduces the Hexaguard Horizon concept, inspired by the hexagonal design found in the Pajero’s spare tire compartment.
5. Cabin Space
With a longer wheelbase compared to the Xpander, the Destinator’s cabin offers more comfortable headroom and legroom.
Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, a 64-color ambient lighting system, air conditioning vents for each row, USB Type-A and C charging ports, and cup holders available in the center console and door trims.
The driver is provided with an eight-inch digital cluster screen that draws inspiration from the Pajero model, while the central screen is 12.3 inches, equipped with a Yamaha Premium Dynamic Sound audio system featuring eight speakers and four modes optimized for high-quality sound.
6. Safety Features
Following the facelifted Xpander, the Destinator now offers up to six SRS airbags.
It also includes Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing, which encompasses:

Mitsubishi has updated the offerings for its popular MPV model, the Xpander, for the Indonesian market.
There are no changes in terms of power, meaning the Xpander still retains its 1.5-liter MIVEC engine that generates 104 hp at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 141 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
There is a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
However, there is one significant change: the standard version of the Xpander now comes with Active Yaw Control (AYC), which was previously reserved for the Xpander Cross model only.
In terms of exterior appearance, the Mitsubishi Xpander facelift features several minor changes.
For instance, the T-shaped headlights now have a smoked effect, followed by a grille structure enhanced with horizontal silver stripes and vertical openings at the bottom.
Additionally, both the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned, while all four corners are fitted with new 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Xpander Cross variant, on the other hand, carries a more aggressive and rugged look, including an X-shaped grille panel design, sturdier-looking front and rear bumpers, and exclusive 17-inch wheel designs.
Inside the cabin, both the Xpander and Xpander Cross come with several updates, such as an eight-inch digital cluster screen and a ten-inch central screen complete with capacitive function buttons.
The second-row seats also feature an armrest in the center along with a bottle holder.
Moreover, the Xpander facelift now comes with six airbags, a highly welcomed change, although it is limited to the top variant.
In Indonesia, the Mitsubishi Xpander is priced starting from Rp 270,100,000 (RM70,642) to Rp 337,800,000 (RM88,348).
Meanwhile, the Xpander Cross is priced between Rp 338,000,000 (RM88,401) and Rp 364,200,000 (RM95,253).
To strengthen its presence in the European market, Mitsubishi will rely on models produced by Renault for badge engineering.
Most recently, Mitsubishi is set to launch an all-electric SUV, the Eclipse Cross EV, based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech platform.
Previously, Mitsubishi has introduced several models based on Renault, including the Colt (Clio), ASX (Captur), and Grandis (Symbioz).
Based on a teaser video that was uploaded, several features can be identified, such as aerodynamic wheel design, front grille pattern, hidden door handles, and the Eclipse Cross and EV badges.
To differentiate it from the donor model from Renault, Mitsubishi will also apply its Dynamic Shield design language to the new model.
This C-segment SUV is expected to retain the specifications found in the Scenic E-Tech, with either a single electric motor delivering 168 hp or a dual-motor version producing 215 hp, along with battery pack options of 60 kWh and 87 kWh.
Additionally, the Eclipse Cross EV will feature a five-seat configuration, with a cargo space of 545 liters, a Google-based infotainment system, and various ADAS safety features.
