Proton’s EV factory to start production this September, creating 200 job opportunities

Proton’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim is nearing completion and is set to begin operations this September.

Within six months of the groundbreaking ceremony held in February, the construction of this facility has reached 90.4%, with equipment installation at 83.5%, resulting in an overall project progress of 86.9%.

The factory will be used for assembling various models from the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, starting with the Proton e.MAS 7, followed by the e.MAS 5.

With an initial production capacity of 20,000 units per year, the facility can expand to accommodate up to 45,000 units in line with the growth of domestic and international demand.

To facilitate this, each production line can be enhanced with several stations featuring a modular testing line capable of supporting platform variations or the production of multiple model types.

Logistics, utilities, storage systems, and digital traceability tools have also been optimized to support scaling for various models for both local and export markets.

Unlike the existing factory, this EV production facility has a new layout specifically designed for battery assembly, high-voltage safety measures, and electrical testing processes.

Proton is also training 30 non-executive workers with Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) and diploma backgrounds before the full-scale production begins this September.

This EV factory is expected to generate over 200 new job opportunities for the local community, particularly in the fields of EV industrialization and technical services.

Additionally, Proton is collaborating strategically with Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS) to strengthen local talent, where Proton contributes technical syllabus input and supports internship initiatives.

Geely, as Proton’s partner, provides technical guidance on the production systems, assists in equipment selection, and positions experts to support installation and trial testing.

Furthermore, Geely facilitates overseas training for Proton staff to ensure the new facility meets global EV manufacturing standards.

According to Wan Yousry bin Mohamed, Chief Manufacturing Engineer at PROTON, “This factory represents PROTON’s transformation and our unwavering commitment to a sustainable, high-tech future.

“We are also laying the groundwork for Malaysia’s leadership in the regional EV landscape by strategically expanding our EV offerings into new international markets. This is a monumental step for both the company and the country, and we are excited to see the first Malaysian-made EV roll off the production line and onto our roads,” he added.

There is a Toyota GR Corolla taxi in Japan!

Take a look at the image above. Did you notice its presence? If you did, congratulations on your keen eye.

We would like to share the existence of a high-performance Toyota GR Corolla taxi operating in Sendai, Japan.

The sight of a GR Corolla serving as a taxi is quite unique, as most taxis there typically use models like the Toyota Crown Comfort, Toyota Prius, and the specially designed Toyota JPN Taxi.

A quick search on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) reveals that the GR Corolla taxi features an eight-speed automatic transmission (GR-DAT).

Moreover, this hot hatch has been equipped with a meter installation and rear passenger doors that have been modified for automatic electric operation by Futaba System.

The Toyota GR Corolla is a compact hot hatch powered by a three-cylinder inline engine, the G16E-GTS, producing 304 PS and 400 Nm of torque.

Originally, it was only available with a six-speed manual transmission; however, with the introduction of the facelift model in August 2024, buyers can now get the GR Corolla with Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) featuring an eight-speed option, complete with paddle shifters.

As hot hatch enthusiasts, we can only imagine the excitement of passengers who manage to experience the Toyota GR Corolla taxi service on their travels.

Garagisti GP1 – V12 supercar with 800 hp!

You may be tired of the lineup of electric cars currently on the market.

Although many of them boast performance capable of rivaling any supercar, most lack the soul, sound, and genuine mechanical experience that enthusiasts crave.

Enter the analog machine that fulfills this void—the GP1, crafted by the British engineering firm Garagisti & Co.

The GP1 features a naturally aspirated V12 engine displacing 6.6 liters, entirely built from scratch by the Italian company Italtecnica.

Overall, the GP1 is capable of generating up to 800 hp at 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm of torque, paired with an Xtrac manual gearbox and a rear-wheel-drive system.

Additionally, the GP1 showcases a carbon monocoque chassis, Ohlins suspension, and Brembo brake systems.

This exquisitely artistic exterior design was created by former Bugatti and Rimac designer Angel Guerra, who drew considerable inspiration from iconic models such as the Lancia Stratos Zero and Lamborghini Countach.

In keeping with the analog theme, the GP1’s cabin is not cluttered with the presence of a massive touchscreen.

Instead, it offers a traditional steering wheel, manual transmission lever, several physical control buttons, and a relatively high center console that separates the driver from the passenger.

Only 25 units of the GP1 will be produced, each estimated to be valued at £2.45 million (RM13.94 million), excluding taxes, shipping costs, and customization fees.

The first 12 buyers will receive the honor of participating in Garagisti’s Open Door program, which offers the opportunity to meet the engineers and designers behind the GP1.

Lexus LBX Morizo RR Original Edition – limited to 100 units in Japan

The Lexus LBX is one of the most unique luxury products available; it is not designed to meet the practical needs of a housewife.

Instead, it is crafted as a “favorite sneakers” that is perfect for those who want to enjoy the thrill of driving on weekends.

The result is a crossover that is agile, fast, and powerful, especially when equipped with a manual transmission.

Adding to this, Lexus is now introducing the LBX Morizo RR Original Edition, which closely resembles the specifications of the concept model LBX Morizo that debuted in January 2024.

The exterior of this vehicle is adorned with a Sonic Chrome paint finish, complemented by Morizo yellow on the brake calipers and accents on the top of the grille.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find yellow seatbelts, along with Ochre trim similar to that used in the Lexus LC 500.

The Lexus LBX Morizo RR is available with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic gearbox, just like the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.

In Japan, Lexus is limiting the sale of the LBX Morizo RR Original Edition to just 100 buyers.

The SIRIM recognition, through IEC 60095 certification, meets international standards for safety and quality.

This achievement positions ASTRA as the only automotive battery brand in Malaysia to receive certification for all 28 of its SKUs, including MF batteries, EFB batteries, and AGM batteries.

Interestingly, Bateriku also offers free Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance coverage up to RM7,000 with every purchase of an ASTRA battery—this initiative is the first of its kind in the Malaysian battery industry.

Users will enjoy national warranty services, including on-site assistance anywhere in Malaysia.

During the same event, Bateriku launched its Quality Laboratory, a specialized facility for testing the performance, durability, and safety of each supplied battery.

The establishment of the Bateriku Quality Laboratory under Green Lab Sdn Bhd will strengthen internal quality control and ensure that every ASTRA battery meets the established quality standards.

According to Bateriku’s Chief Executive Officer, Tuan Haji Azarol Faizi bin Zakaria Ansari, “ASTRA is not just a battery; it is a promise of quality, after-sales support, and peace of mind for every user in Malaysia.

“Astra is the battery of choice for mechanics, as they no longer need to address customer warranty claims.

“Customers can visit any of the 225 Bateriku Pit Stops nationwide or contact Bateriku’s 24-hour hotline.”
