Proton New Energy Technology (Pro‑Net) has officially begun local assembly (CKD) operations for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV at the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim.

The first e.MAS 7 PHEV roll‑out ceremony was officiated by YB Senator Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), together with Deputy Minister YB Sim Tze Tzin.

Also present were Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Proton Chairman; Dr. Li Chunrong, Proton Chief Executive Officer; and Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Proton Deputy CEO.

Sales Performance & New Features

The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has emerged as Malaysia’s best‑selling plug‑in hybrid vehicle, with registrations reaching 4,500 units to date.

Total bookings have surpassed 11,000 units.

Proton also announced a new feature for the e.MAS 7 PHEV: a massage function for the driver and front passenger seats. This enhancement is available exclusively for the Premium and Premium Plus variants.

The addition reflects Pro‑Net’s commitment to improving its products based on customer feedback and evolving consumer expectations, ensuring the model remains practical and relevant for daily use.

Strengthening the Local Ecosystem

The CKD programme for the e.MAS 7 PHEV marks the next phase of Pro‑Net’s localisation efforts, involving Malaysian suppliers across the automotive value chain.

Approximately 30% of the vehicle’s components are sourced locally.

This represents a significant step toward strengthening Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem, expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities, and creating more high‑skilled job opportunities.

Proton’s new EV plant currently employs 391 staff members.

Plans to Increase Local Content

Earlier this year, Proton announced plans to expand its new energy vehicle (NEV) assembly plant at AHTV Tanjong Malim.

With an investment value of RM37 million, Proton aims to increase production capacity to 42,000 units per year.

This initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to raise local content across its product lineup.

SAIC Motor Malaysia announces plan to assemble MG’s first EV in Melaka, starting in 2026

SAIC Motor Malaysia today announced plans to begin local assembly of MG vehicles in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2026, marking a significant milestone in bringing MG products closer to local customers while strengthening the brand’s regional growth.

The announcement was made by Mr Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, in the presence of YBhg Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid, Chairman of the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), and YBhg En. Hamidon Bin Abdullah, Executive Chairman of EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB), during a special event attended by partners, media, and key industry stakeholders.

“This remarkable journey would not have been possible without the support of our dealers, business partners, media, and colleagues,” said Emory Qi. “Local assembly will be a key milestone that brings us closer to customers while reinforcing our role as a regional hub for MG.”

As part of its commitment to accelerate localisation, SAIC Motor Malaysia will begin local assembly in partnership with EPMB in Melaka. The Melaka facility will be capable of assembling green energy vehicles including BEV and HEV, as well as internal combustion engine (ICE) models under one roof. The strategy focuses on three priorities: affordability, faster delivery, and stronger localisation, aligning with SAIC Motor’s vision of a green energy vehicle roadmap presented at Auto Shanghai 2025.

“We are pleased to partner with SAIC Motor – our second state-owned OEM partner – to assemble the MG models in Malaysia. One will be the first electric vehicle locally assembled at our Melaka plant. Through collaboration with local suppliers, we will accelerate localization, including battery pack assembly for MG vehicles, enhancing our value proposition and better serving the Malaysian market”, said En Hamidon Abdullah, Executive Chairman of EPMB.

“Our assembly line will fully meet customer demand, ensuring a smoother and faster ownership experience,” Emory added. “Most importantly, quality is non-negotiable. Every locally assembled vehicle will undergo stringent global-level inspections through SAIC’s Quality Sustenance Programme.”

SAIC Motor Malaysia highlighted several factors that make Malaysia the ideal location for local assembly. The 50-year friendship between Malaysia and China provides a strong foundation of trust and collaboration, while Malaysia’s strategic location within ASEAN positions it as a natural hub for regional distribution and growth. Beyond vehicle assembly, the investment will create jobs, strengthen the vendor ecosystem, and lay the groundwork for future R&D development in Malaysia.

“Today’s announcement is only the beginning,” Emory concluded. “Together with our partners and local talent, we are building a future where innovation, sustainability, and opportunity drive Malaysia forward with MG.”

Since its launch just over a year ago, SAIC Motor Malaysia has expanded its network to 26 MG Motor Authorised Dealerships nationwide, including three showrooms in Sarawak, with three more on the way. Its five-model line-up now includes the all-electric MGS5 EV, reflecting the brand’s shift toward green energy vehicles. Jetour begins CKD operations to strengthen position in ASEAN

Jetour Auto Malaysia has officially commenced local assembly operations (CKD) for the Dashing SUV and VT9 models at the Berjaya Assembly Sdn Bhd (B-Assembly) facility in Tampoi, Johor Bahru.

The 640,000 square-foot facility provides over 100 job opportunities, establishing Malaysia as a strategic hub for manufacturing and distribution within the ASEAN region.

B-Assembly, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berjaya Assets Berhad, serves as Jetour’s local assembly partner.

This existing facility is equipped with Industry 4.0-capable systems, reflecting the shared commitment of both companies to high manufacturing standards, operational efficiency, and sustainable mobility solutions.

Wen Qiangkang, Vice President of Jetour International, stated, “This significant achievement reflects our strong confidence in Malaysia as a strategic market for Jetour.”

Fu Yong, CEO of Jetour Malaysia, added, “With the launch of local manufacturing operations, we are proud to offer high-quality vehicles assembled in Malaysia, in line with our ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.”

Since the official launch of its first product line in Malaysia, Jetour has seen rapid growth, expanding to over 20 branches across the country.

These CKD operations mark an important milestone in efforts to accelerate local procurement to meet increasing demand, shorten delivery times, and enhance customer satisfaction through added value for consumers in Malaysia.

Currently, the facility focuses on assembling the Dashing and VT9 models, with over 1,000 vehicles produced so far.

Deliveries of the locally assembled Dashing model began in June 2025, followed by the VT9 model in the near future.

Looking ahead, Jetour plans to invest approximately RM1.4 billion in Malaysia to support the launch of more locally assembled models and exports to neighboring countries in the ASEAN region.
