Proton recently signed four joint venture agreements as well as two technical agreements with local vendors and global suppliers for Geely’s products.
This new collaboration aims to strengthen the company’s local supply chain and enhance the capabilities of local vendors.
It also aims to accelerate the localization of key components for Proton models in the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) segments.
Among the key components involved are as follows:
- ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) for model AMA01 (Delloyd Technology Bhd & Imotion Automotive Technology (Suzhou) Co. Ltd)
- Brake systems for model AMA01 and Series X (PEPS JV (M) Sdn Bhd & Liuzhou Sanly Autoparts Co. Ltd)
- Lighting systems (JHM Consolidation Bhd & Jiangsu Dekai Auto Parts Co. Ltd)
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems (Trillion Speed (M) Sdn Bhd & Shanghai Yinlun Heat Exchange Systems Co. Ltd)
Additionally, a technical agreement has been finalized between SHJ Interia Sdn Bhd and Changcun Fawsn Automotive Trim Co. Ltd to develop and transfer new manufacturing technologies for interior components, particularly roof linings.
The second technical agreement involves Xenso Electronics Sdn Bhd and Freetech Intelligent Systems Co. Ltd, aimed at developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), specifically for blind spot monitoring and lane change assistance functions.
“With high-tech components becoming increasingly important in our models, it is essential for PROTON to bring the development and production of these components into the local ecosystem. This is not only for cost reduction but also to enhance the capabilities of our R&D team and vendors.
These joint venture and technical agreements reflect our long-term commitment to manufacturing vehicles in Malaysia while making the country an automotive hub by contributing to the realization of the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) led by the company’s shareholders,” said Wang Huaibing, Chief Procurement Officer of PROTON.
