Pro-Net’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Zhang Qiang, expressed his excitement for this initiative: “At Pro-Net, we are focused on making electric driving practical and enjoyable for all. As we celebrate Raya, we want to thank our customers by making it easy and affordable for them to get home.”
Proton eMAS and smart EV owners can enjoy this special offer at over 85% of public charging stations. Just use the Proton eMAS or Hello smart apps to start your charging session, and the discount will be applied automatically.
To ring in the Lunar New Year and celebrate the delivery of the first Proton e.MAS 7 to our customers, Pro-Net is offering a 30% discount on public charging fees.
From January 25 to February 3, Proton e.MAS and smart owners can enjoy this special offer at over 80% of public charging stations.
Just use the Proton e.MAS or Hello smart apps to start your charging session, and the discount will be applied automatically.
Proton e.MAS is all about making EV ownership easy and enjoyable with smart features like live charging station availability and route planning based on your car’s battery level.
This would be a significant expansion of its charging map coverage as the charging network operated by Shell Recharge includes High-Performance Charging Stations along major highways, with most of the stations can deliver 180kW of charging power.
Plus, thanks to Pro-Net’s partnership with Shell Recharge, the company is adding even more charging points across highways and city hotspots, including high-speed chargers for quicker stops.
This highly anticipated addition follows the recent integration of the ChargeSini Network, which was also the first in Malaysia to be accessible via a roaming arrangement.
Currently, the charging networks accessible on both Proton e.MAS and Hello smart apps include Gentari, Jomcharge, chargEV, DC Handal, CarputZap, and ChargeSini.
Smart Malaysia has introduced a customer loyalty programme powered by the Geno W3-D2C blockchain system (Web3 Direct-to-Customer) to enhance the customer experience.
The programme provides a transparent ecosystem that allows customers to earn exciting rewards through everyday activities such as social interactions, making referrals, and driving.
By participating in these daily activities, customers can accumulate smart Points, a form of reward points that never expire and are secured on blockchain-based smart contracts.
There are three main ways to earn points: Social-to-Earn, Referral-to-Earn, and Drive-to-Earn. Below are the reward points available for each activity or task completed:
Using the Hello smart app, customers can redeem their accumulated points for various exclusive rewards such as EV charging credits and official Smart merchandise.
According to the company, the charging redemption offers significant value, providing electric vehicle owners with cost-effective ways to recharge, thereby enhancing the overall driving experience.
“At Smart Malaysia, we believe customer loyalty goes beyond traditional rewards programmes. Our new loyalty initiative is designed to create meaningful connections with our customers and recognise their engagement with the brand,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET.
In addition to the luxurious MPV 009, Zeekr Malaysia is also set to launch an electric crossover known as the X to heat up the competition in the local EV market.
For your information, the X actually has ‘siblings’ that have already been launched in Malaysia, specifically the smart #1 and #3, along with the Volvo EX30.
What is the connection between the X and these three models? Interestingly, despite their very different designs, all of them share the same ‘skeleton’ that is the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform developed by Geely.
This is not surprising, as smart, Volvo, and Zeekr all operate under the Geely umbrella and platform sharing is arguably the easiest way to reduce costs.
In this article, we will compare the four models to help you choose the one that best fits your budget and needs:
Dimensions
Although they utilise the same platform, all four EVs have slightly different dimensions. The smart #1 is the smallest, measuring 4,270 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,636 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.
The #3 is slightly larger, with a length of 4,400 mm, width of 1,844 mm, height of 1,556 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,785 mm.
The EX30, Volvo’s smallest car to date, measures 4,223 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, 1,555 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
Meanwhile, the X stands out as the longest model, measuring 4,450 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width, and 1,572 mm in height. However, its wheelbase is identical to that of the #1, also at 2,750 mm.
Powertrain
For this category, we will compare the twin electric motor variants. Interestingly, all four have the same power output of 422 hp (315 kW) and 543 Nm of torque.
However, looking at the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h, the EX30 Ultra Twin Performance is the fastest at 3.6 seconds. The #3 Brabus follows closely at 3.7 seconds, with the X at 3.8 seconds, and finally, the #1 at 3.9 seconds.
The maximum speed for all four models is capped at 180 km/h.
Battery and Range
In terms of battery, the #1 Pro and #3 Pro come equipped with LFP 49 kWh batteries, offering ranges between 315 km and 325 km. The Premium variants of both models use nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) 66 kWh batteries, with ranges from 440 km to 455 km.
The highest variant, Brabus, uses the same battery but with a shorter range of 400 km for the #1 and 415 km for the #3.
The EX30 features a 69 kWh NMC battery, providing a range of 476 km for the single motor variants (Plus and Ultra) and 450 km for the Ultra Twin Performance variant with twin motors.
Meanwhile, the X is equipped with a 66 kWh NMC battery, promising a range of 440 km based on the WLTP cycle.
Price
This may be the most crucial aspect when comparing these four electric crossovers.
Starting with the #1, the Pro variant is priced at RM169,000, the Premium at RM209,000, and the Brabus at RM249,000.
The #3 Pro retails for RM175,000, the Premium for RM215,000, and the Brabus at RM255,000.
For the EX30, the base variant (Plus) is priced at RM188,888, the Ultra at RM208,888, and the Ultra Twin Performance at RM228,888.
As of the time of writing, the official price for the Zeekr X has yet to be announced. However, according to the company, it is expected to be priced below RM180,000.
If you recall from last August, we listed the top five electric vehicles (EVs) available for prices between RM100,000 and RM150,000.
Notably, all five EVs in that list were from Chinese brands. However, this isn’t necessarily a drawback, as many EVs from that country offer impressive performance, technology, and features at affordable prices.
In this article, we present the top five EVs priced between RM150,000 and RM200,000, which still includes candidates from Chinese brands. But this time, there’s good news for those wanting to try EVs from European brands, as there are three models that may suit their preferences:
Volvo EX30 Plus (RM188,888)
Recently launched in the Malaysian market, the Volvo EX30 may not be entirely European, as it uses a platform made by Geely—also employed in the smart #1 and Zeekr X—and is assembled in China. However, it is undoubtedly a true Volvo.
The Thor Hammer LED lights signify that it is a Volvo, and the minimalist interior showcases various sustainable materials, which is in line with the brand’s strategy. For performance enthusiasts, you’ll be pleased to know that the Plus variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. Want something faster? You can opt for the Ultra Twin Performance variant but that is priced above RM200,000.
BYD Seal (RM163,800 – RM199,800)
In this writer’s opinion, no EV list would be complete without BYD. Within the price range of RM150,000 to RM200,000, you can acquire the flagship Seal sedan, which is available in three variants: Dynamic, Premium, and Performance.
These variants differ in performance (with the Performance being the fastest at 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds) and range (the Premium can travel the farthest at 570 km). Interestingly, regardless of the chosen variant, buyers get a nearly identical list of features and specifications.
XPeng G6 (RM165,000 – RM185,000)
XPeng is a new EV brand from China introduced in Malaysia by Bermaz, alleviating concerns about after-sales service, as Bermaz is well-experienced in this area.
The G6 is XPeng’s first ever model available in Malaysia, offering a premium coupe SUV design along with advanced technologies such as the Smart Electric Platform Architecture 2.0 with an 800V architecture, the XOpera surround sound system, and XPILOT 2.5 safety features for well under RM200,000.
smart #3 Pro (RM175,000)
Similar to the Volvo EX30, the smart #3 could be seen as an Eurasian blend, combining technology from an Asian company (Geely) with European design (specifically German, as it was designed by Mercedes-Benz).
The Pro is the entry-level variant in the #3 lineup. At RM175,000, it offers good value for those interested in the smart brand as it packs 272 PS and 343 Nm of torque, can reach 0 to 100 km/h in a scant 5.8 seconds, and has a range of up to 325 km on a full charge, which is 10 km further than the #1 Pro.
MINI Electric Cooper SE (RM193,888)
This writer believes many readers of Engear TV are fans of MINI. The second generation of the MINI Electric Cooper is viewed as a more worthwhile investment, featuring not only a more modern design but also vastly increased power and range.
Launched in Malaysia last July, the new Cooper SE is powered by a single electric motor on the front axle, producing 218 PS and 330 Nm (an increase of 34 PS and 60 Nm), allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. With a larger battery capacity of 54.2 kWh, it provides a range of 402 km on a full charge, almost double the range of the previous model.
Following the launch of smart #3 at Pavilion Bukit Jalil and also at Setia Alam Convention Centre (EVx), smart Malaysia has announced that the smart Tour this time will be held at Bangsar Shopping Centre this weekend, from July 31 to August 4, 2024.
The smart Tour Brand Roadshow is an exhibition of smart vehicles that brings the innovative smart #1 and #3 vehicles closer to potential owners like you. This exhibition will provide in-depth information and live demonstrations of the latest features of smart vehicles including V2L capability and the Hello smart App function.
smart Malaysia invites all electric vehicle enthusiasts to see and experience the sophistication of smart #1 and #3 Pro, Premium, and BRABUS models for themselves.
Additionally, you have the opportunity to enjoy special Brabus Fever offers and receive rewards worth up to RM30,000 for the smart #1 Brabus.
Here is the schedule of locations and dates for the smart Tour Brand Roadshow:

In terms of specifications, the Pro variant has a 49kWh battery, while the Premium and Brabus variants have a 66kWh battery.
The Pro and Premium variants feature a single rear electric motor with an output of 272hp and 343Nm torque, allowing acceleration from 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The smart #3 Brabus, on the other hand, has two motors on the front and rear axles, with a total power of 428hp and 543Nm torque. As the #3 Brabus is an AWD vehicle, its acceleration from 0-100km/h is much faster, around 3.7 seconds.
The maximum speed for all variants is 180km/h. The driving range is approximately 455km for the Pro and Premium, and 415km for the Brabus.
Both the BRABUS and Premium variants offer the best-in-segment 22kWh AC charger with the ability to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 3 hours.
Furthermore, the smart #3 also enhances the latest safety technology, with 23 high-precision sensors supporting 21 ADAS functions to ensure driver safety on the road.

PROTON today introduced e.MAS as a sub-brand of their fully electric (EV) models. Before we proceed further, the pronunciation of e.MAS is “imas”, with the letter ‘e’ connected to the word ‘mas’. It stands for Electrifying Malaysia.
Proton also unveiled the e.MAS logo, featuring the display of a tiger’s head without confinement. According to Proton, it aligns with the current design trend for EV brands that lean towards cleaner and less complicated graphics.
“The unveiling of the e.MAS brand and logo today marks a significant step forward in Proton’s journey towards launching our own EV model,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer, Proton.
“We are aware that as a company tied to the industrialisation of Malaysia, we have a responsibility to provide mobility solutions relevant and within reach of all Malaysians.
“This is why Proton has been deliberate in its approach towards EVs, developing our knowledge base step by step to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the products, technology and user concerns before sales even begin,” he added.
Also announced at this event is the appointment of the first 17 Proton EV dealers who have signed their agreements earlier today.
“As Malaysia’s first automotive brand it is important for Proton to invest in infrastructure to offer a full range of services to EV buyers, instead of just selling product.
“Therefore, when Proton e.MAS models go on sale, customers can be reassured their every need will be taken care of just like it would be for buyers of the current Proton range,” added Dr Li Chunrong.
Proton also shared with the media practitioners that when the cooperation with Geely began in 2017, plans were made to introduce Proton EV models.
Despite delays during the pandemic, activities resumed with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Proton and smart on January 19, 2022.
This was followed by the signing of the General Distribution Agreement (GDA) between the two parties on August 18, and the establishment of PRO-NET on September 9 to oversee sales and distribution of smart vehicles and future EV offerings from Proton.
The next step was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gentari in October to collaborate on establishing charging infrastructure.
This was followed by sending 16 engineers to China in December 2022 for On-Job Training (OJT) in EVs and related fields such as charging and servicing.
In 2023, Proton appointed dealers for smart and recruited staff from various industries to strengthen the workforce to manage the brand.
Commenting on the new EV brand, Dr. Li Chunrong added, “The e.MAS brand and its products are an extension of Proton’s three core values: innovative technology, reliability, and international standards. This is the next step in the company’s evolution, and in the coming months, we will make new announcements to build brand recognition and product promotion ahead of the launch of the first Proton e.MAS EV in December this year.”
As reported earlier, the smart Malaysia has now showcased the #3 for the first time to the public. The unveiling took place at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 at MAEPS, Serdang, marking the electric SUV’s debut in Southeast Asia.
The price has not been revealed, but smart Malaysia has announced that reservations for the smart #3 are now open.

The Pro and Premium variants are equipped with a single rear electric motor, delivering an output of 272hp and 343Nm torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 in 5.8 seconds.
The smart #3 Brabus, on the other hand, is equipped with two motors on the front and rear axles, with a total power of 428hp and 543Nm torque. The #3 Brabus, being an AWD vehicle, accelerates from 0 to 100 much faster, in approximately 3.7 seconds.
The maximum speed for all variants is 180km/h. The driving range is approximately 455km for the Pro and Premium, and 415km for the Brabus.
Both the BRABUS and Premium variants offer the best-in-segment 22kWh AC chargers, capable of charging the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 3 hours.
The smart #3 has been enhanced with the latest safety technology, featuring 23 high-precision sensors supporting 21 ADAS functions to ensure driver safety on the road.

smart #1 Pricing Update
Additionally, smart Malaysia announced the revised prices for the smart #1:
smart #3 Premium – RM209,000
smart #1 Pro – RM169,000
smart Malaysia is also offering a complimentary 4-year vehicle service package to existing owners of the smart #1 Premium and Pro models.
Recently, smart Malaysia conducted a preview session for its latest model, the smart #3, exclusively at the Pro-Net headquarters. We had the opportunity to get a closer look and even test drive the smart #3 on the Proton test circuit in Shah Alam. But first, a little background.
Background
For those who are uninitiated, smart is now owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz, focusing solely on producing fully electric vehicles (EVs) at the moment.
The smart #3 is not just a sportier coupe version of the #1; it comes with several technical differences. Firstly, it is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform shared with the #1 and several models under the Geely group.
In broad terms, the smart #3 is longer and wider than the #1 but lower, with approximately an 80mm difference between the two. Therefore, theoretically, the smart #3 is expected to offer more stable handling, right? We’ll discuss this further.
Unique features of smart #3
One distinctive feature of the smart #3 is its curved coupe-style roof, unlike the straight roof of the #1. The roof of the smart #3 has unique color play on the A-pillar and C-pillar, giving it a ‘floating roof’ effect.
Other features include front and rear LED lights, flush door handles, frameless windows, and illuminated logos. The smart #3 is also more aerodynamic than the #1, with a drag coefficient of 0.27 (0.29 for the #1).
Specification details
The lineup offers variants similar to the smart #1: Pro, Premium, and Brabus. The Pro variant has a 49kWh battery, while the Premium and Brabus variants come with a 66kWh battery.
The Pro and Premium variants have a single rear electric motor with an output of 272hp and 343Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 acceleration in 5.8 seconds.
On the other hand, the smart #3 features two motors on the front and rear axles, delivering a total power of 428hp and 543Nm of torque.
As the #3 Brabus is an AWD vehicle, its 0-100 acceleration is much quicker, around 3.7 seconds. The maximum speed for all variants is 180km/h, with a driving range of approximately 455km for Pro and Premium, and 415km for Brabus.
Initial impressions
So, how was the initial drive of the smart #3? From our experience on Proton’s high-speed oval track, the smart #3 accelerates smoothly.
The Premium variant reaching 100km/h in 5.8 seconds is more than sufficient. Imagine cruising this smart #3 on the highway; a smooth acceleration means easier lane changes and smoother traffic flow. Agree?
We also tested the dynamics at Pro-Net’s provided dynamic section, including figure-8, slalom, and straight-line acceleration. The smart #3’s chassis felt sturdier and agile due to its stiffer springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars compared to the #1, giving it a sportier character.
The technical changes seem crucial and complement the sporty appearance of the #3. Turning in the figure-8 felt stable, with smooth torque delivery at low speeds.
This makes it suitable for everyday city driving by regular motorists. Among our experiences, the slalom tested the chassis stability, tire grip limits, and power delivery. The smart #3 easily reaches grip limits due to its rapid torque delivery, following your right foot’s commands.
However, the safety systems and strengthened chassis ensure the car remains in control and assists the driver in navigating through various situations. Body roll is noticeably reduced, making the smart #3 more nimble and agile when changing directions while accelerating and braking.
Overall, the smart #3 exhibits a distinct character compared to the #1, suitable for young buyers seeking an enjoyable EV for daily driving. Stay tuned for our extensive daily test drive report in both city and long-distance driving once we receive the smart #3 test unit shortly.
In the meantime, you can visit the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 from May 22 to May 26, 2024, as the smart #3 will make its debut appearance there. smart Malaysia representatives will be at Hall A2 (Premium Hall), MAEPS, Serdang.
In response to the growing demand for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), Pro-Net has announced the expansion of its charging infrastructure network.
Since the introduction of a DC Charger at Proton’s headquarters in October last year, Pro-Net has taken proactive steps to expand the charging infrastructure across its Proton Edar dealerships.
Collaborating with partner Gentari, the organisation has deployed six DC chargers, totaling 12 charging bays, with each bay equipped with two nozzles. This rollout includes 50 kW, 100 kW, and 120 kW chargers, as well as three 60 kW chargers.
This is in addition to the chargers at existing smart dealerships, which include 5 DC chargers and 13 AC chargers, making it a total of 22 charging bays across Peninsular Malaysia.
Pro-Net said it has imminent plans to introduce additional charging infrastructure as part of its dealership expansion network in Sabah.
Currently, over 70% of public charging points are accessible through the Hello smart App, thanks to strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as chargEV, JomCharge, and Gentari.
The app allows users to effortlessly access the charging map from Proton Edar and Smart Malaysia dealerships.
PRO-NET announced that the smart #1 has been ranked third in the EV SUV market category for cars priced above RM180,000, making it one of the most preferred premium EVs in Malaysia.
According to Pro-Net, the Malaysian EV market has witnessed exponential growth in recent years, with EV sales volume surging from 3,079 units in 2022 to 11,624 units in 2023, accompanied by a significant increase in market share from 0.43% to 1.45%.
Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of smart Malaysia said the milestone reflects the growing demand for urban mobility solutions in the region and reaffirms smart’s goal to position itself as a leader in the premium EV segment.
“With only one model sold, as opposed to other key players in the industry, we have achieved this great success. This exemplifies the trust our customers have in our product and services, and I would like to express my gratitude to our customers,’’ he added.
Designed by Mercedes-Benz and built on Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA), the smart #1 is available in three variants: Pro (RM189,000), Premium (RM219,000), and Brabus (RM249,000).
The Pro and Premium variants are equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 272 PS and 343 Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
The more superior smart #1 Brabus features twin electric motors with an output of 428 PS and 543 Nm. With higher power and AWD, it only takes 3.9 seconds to reach a speed of 100 km/h.
The Pro variant comes with a 49 kWh battery providing a driving range of up to 315 km. On the other hand, the Premium and Brabus variants each have a 66 kWh battery, offering different driving ranges of 440 km for the former and 400 km for the latter.
WITHIN less than two months since its launch on November 21, 2023, smart Malaysia reported that it has recorded 200 registrations for the smart #1.
According to smart, users and customers have provided positive feedback on the smart #1 with its unique Mercedes touch and Geely’s latest technology.
As a kickoff for 2024, smart Malaysia has announced enhancements to the Hello Smart App, providing users with a smoother and more convenient ownership experience.
The updated app now facilitates payments with debit or credit cards, allowing owners to pay for their vehicle’s charging, or purchase in-car internet data directly through the app. The prices for internet data are set at RM8 for 1GB, RM21 for 3GB, and RM30 for 5GB.
One of the main features within the Hello Smart App is the integrated charging station map, providing access to 70% of public charging stations nationwide.
In addition, the app also streamlines the loan application process, setting a new standard for EV ownership that is more easily accessible.
‘The Lóng龙 Drive’ contest by smart Malaysia
In addition, smart Malaysia is holding a contest offering a holiday prize for test driving the smart #1. Through the ‘The Lóng龙 Drive’ social media contest, participants have a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Melaka.
Other prizes include TnG e-wallet vouchers worth up to RM200 and limited edition smart Angpao packages. Visit the Facebook or Instagram social media pages for entry details and further information.

It comes with a two-year warranty and charging credit, valid for purchases made until January 31, 2024. Additionally, buyers can take advantage of low-interest rates, as low as 1.15%, through selected bank offers.
THE first electric vehicle (EV) introduced by smart Malaysia, the smart #1, has received 1,000 bookings within about two weeks of its launch.
“The success of smart #1 reflects not only the excellence of our product but also our dedication to providing a seamless and enjoyable ownership experience.
The comprehensive warranty coverage, complimentary packages, and the smartCharge Home Charger offer are a testament to our commitment to customer satisfaction,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of smart Malaysia.
Zhang added that delivery is also a pivotal aspect, and his team is diligently working to ensure timely delivery of cars to customers.
For the Malaysian market, the smart #1 is offered in three variants, namely Pro, Premium, and Brabus, with prices ranging from RM189,000 to RM249,000.
