This RM6 million “1M” plate number is owned by the Malaysian Embassy in UK

The use of custom license plates on luxury cars is not a new phenomenon and is also a common sight in Malaysia.

However, did you know that there is a special registration number that exists only in the UK, valued at millions of ringgit?

This is the license plate “1M” owned by the Malaysian Embassy.

According to a video by @numberplatehistory on TikTok, this date-less license plate was specially issued by the UK government for the Malaysian Embassy.

@numberplatehistory £1M Plate You will never be able to buy! This number plate, with a dateless format, was especially issued to the Malaysian Embassy. As it an embassy plate, it is non transferable outside of their vehicles. Over the years, it has been on a variety of vehicles from London Taxis to Mercedes Benz S Classes, currently sitting on an S450. Although it is impossible to say when the registration was issued, documents tell us it was already in use by 1974 through the amazing researcher late Noel Woodall. If this registration ever came to market, not that it can, it would likely sell for over seven figures – or a million pound number plate! It’s value comes inherently from it’s initial, number, and character length. Number Plates / Registration value can be established by a few factors: 🔴 Popularity of Initials 🔴 Number of Characters 🔴 Quality of Numbers As it is impossible in the United Kingdom to have a two digit number plate, this is the shortest possible M alongside the privately owned M1. If you would like to find out more about number plates, check out my other videos! I am not associated nor apart of this plates sale, this video is a showcase of a unique plate. #foryoupage #fyp #cars #privatenumberplate #privateplate #licenseplates #numberplate #licenseplatetok #carcontent #numberplates ♬ Paris – Else

The value of this registration number – if it could be sold – could reach £1 million (RM5.71 million).

“As it is an embassy plate, it is non-transferable outside of their vehicles,” he wrote.

It is unclear when this special number was issued, but based on research documents by Noel Woodall titled Car Numbers, the number 1M has been in use since 1974.

In the UK, the use of special registration numbers symbolizes a status symbol and significant investment.

In addition to 1M, there are also other special plates registered in the UK that have high values exceeding five figures, such as M1, F1, S1, 1D, and VIP 1.

JPJ opens bidding for ‘MADANI’ plate number, until this Wednesday

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is accepting bids for Madani Series Special Registration Numbers (NPIs), with a minimum price of as low as RM100 beginning Saturday (Oct 19) until 10pm on Wednesday (Oct 23), through the JPJeBid System.

Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said that the NPI bid results would be issued on Thursday (Oct 24) and the registration number that was successfully bid must be registered within 12 months from the date the official bid result letter is issued.

“This bidding method is subject to the existing Terms & Conditions that have been set in the JPJeBid System,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 20).

He said the minimum bid price for the number plate series was set according to category, namely RM20,000 for ‘Main Number’, RM5,000 (Premium Number), RM2,500 (Attractive Number), RM500 (Popular Number) and RM100 (Running Number).

Commenting on the NPI, Aedy Fadly said it was a government initiative to support the MADANI Malaysia agenda by promoting civic values.

He said the sale proceeds would be used to realise the implementation of initiatives under the Transport Ministry such as the MyLESEN programme, the Helmet Exchange programme, FlySISWA, Socso payments to taxi drivers and various other initiatives.

Vendor for EV plate number to be finalised – Ministry

THE development of special number plates for electric vehicles (EVs) is in its final stages, awaiting technical finalisation before the official launch.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the government is in the process of appointing a vendor to oversee the implementation.

“We are currently finalising the technical aspects. Once this is completed, we will promptly make the announcement,” he told reporters at a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing between Batik Air and Kia on a new private terminal transfer service.

Loke emphasised that while the adoption of these plates will initially be voluntary, new EVs will be required to bear them as a mandatory measure.

“For existing EV owners, they will have the option to switch to the new plates,” he said.

Previously, the Transport Ministry announced that all EVs across the country will eventually be issued special number plates beginning with ‘EV’ followed by the registered number and so forth (e.g. EV1, EV2).

The ministry also said the road tax pricing structure for EVs would undergo a thorough review.

The government intends to align its policies with the goal of promoting EV adoption in Malaysia as part of its sustainability objectives.

The special number plates are also said to incorporate RFID technology as an additional feature.

No specific timeline was given when these initiatives will be implemented.
