Malaysia Speed Festival 111 laps Merdeka Race returns to Sepang Circuit

Race fans are invited to experience the long weekend with more than 200 racing machines and 300 competitors for a weekend of high-speed four and two wheels racing ahead of Malaysia’s 69th Merdeka celebration in the 2026 MSF Merdeka Race at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit from 29-30 August.

Now into its 9th consecutive edition, the MSF Merdeka Endurance races will feature a grueling 111-lap non-stop endurance race for cars that will cover approximately 615km around the 5.534km circuit, and a 33-lap non-stop endurance race for Superbikes with a race distance of almost 183km.

The MSF SuperTurismo Merdeka 111 Endurance for cars requires teams to field at least two drivers per car, and make a minimum of two three-minute compulsory pitstops – unregulated driving stints by each driver creates a unique arrangement of strategies to unfold as each team will have their own plan to race to, based on their pre-race calculations.  It is divided into seven individual classes: Super Series Limited; EXN GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup; Super Compatto; Standard Production; Standard Production MAX; Super Production; and K-Series Battle.

The MSF SuperTurismo Merdeka 111 Endurance race flags off at 5.30pm on Sunday 30 August, with teams battling through the evening before crossing the finish line just before midnight as Malaysia celebrates its 69th Merdeka Day.

The high-octane weekend will consist of the MSF SuperTurismo and MotoMSF battles for both four and two wheels respectively.

Kicking off the two-day race weekend on Saturday, 29 August will be three night sprint races, featuring two five-lap races in the Super Unlimited class and an eight-lap race in the Skilldrvn One Make race Series, running from 9.00pm to 11.35pm.

The action continues on Sunday, 30 August, with two-wheel competitors taking centrestage in the morning. The American V-Twin Cup by Prodigy Racecraft will feature Harley-Davidson motorcycles in a seven-lap race, followed by the MotoMSF Superbikes Merdeka 33 Endurance, a 33-lap superbike endurance race held at the circuit’s South Track between 11.30am and 2.00pm.

The MSF Superbikes Merdeka 33 Endurance race pits a team of 2-riders sharing racing duties to complete the race non-stop, with compulsory pitstops every 8-laps – in the Malaysian heat this is a major feat of physical endurance by the riders in their full-leather suits. Riders from around the region come to complete in this race which was first run last year and has grown in prominence.

Four-wheel racing resumes Sunday afternoon with the second stint of the Skilldrvn One make Race Series, featuring a 10-lap race at 2.15pm, followed by the Merdeka 75 Cup at 3.00pm. The 75-minute endurance race will feature four classes – Saga Cup, MyVi Cup, CamPro Cup and Tuner Production.

“The Merdeka race has grown tremendously over the years, and being able to put together the annual 111 laps endurance is a significant milestone for MSF,” said Adian Yein Khalid, MSF Principal.

“What makes this race special is that it brings together veteran racers and newer faces, established teams and some of the region’s experienced competitors on the same grid. It is a true test of speed, consistency, strategy and teamwork, and we are proud to see how far the event has come as well as how it has contributed to motorsports both locally and internationally.”

Returning to defend the overall Merdeka Race title they won last year will be veteran racer Faidzil Alang and Mohamed Hafez, amidst a grid of strong local contenders as well as racers from Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

Paddock passes are available on site for just RM45, giving fans access to the race weekend from 10.00am to 11.00pm. Better yet, children below 12 years old enter free, making it a perfect family weekend at the circuit. Beyond the racing action, fans can explore the paddock, refuel at a selection of food trucks, and shop for merchandise and motorsport goodies from participating vendors throughout both days.

The MSF Merdeka Race is organized by Kelab Sukan Motor MSF Malaysia, an official club registered with the Malaysian Sports Commission and an affiliate member of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM).

MSF introduces new Myvi Cup category, dedicated to the ‘King of the Road!’

In addition to being the king of the road, Perodua Myvi owners can now aim to pursue the title of circuit racing king through the introduction of the Myvi Cup category at the Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF).

The latest racing category will make its official debut in Round 6 of the MSF Superturismo at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit on November 10.

The Myvi Cup is an initiative introduced by MSF and is open to all types of Perodua Myvi sold in the Malaysian market.

There are two sub-categories being contested, namely Pro and Casual, which will be differentiated based on the drivers’ skill levels by the race organizers.

Similar to the Saga Cup, each competing vehicle must have permitted racing and safety components while retaining the car’s original components at the same time.

For example, the front brakes must maintain the original factory specifications, followed by the use of drum brakes at the rear.

However, drivers are allowed to use aftermarket components such as slotted rotors, brake pads, and brake hoses that can be directly fitted without modification.

Additionally, drivers must use the original engine block, throttle body, and intake manifold (can be modified but the external parts must appear standard), followed by the original ECU (can be re-tuned/reflashed) and Myvi’s original gearbox (modifiable final drive ratio).

The use of standalone computer units is strictly prohibited, as well as the use of dog-box and sequential gearbox. All cars must retain front-wheel drive and are not allowed to use LSD components.

According to MSF Superturismo principal, Adian Yein Khalid, “MSF’s philosophy is to make racing more accessible and affordable to the public.

“The Saga Cup has proven successful with over 75 cars participating and nearly 200 drivers taking part in each round.

“The introduction of the Myvi Cup is a step towards greater diversity in motorsports. Contrary to common belief, the Myvi has proven that it is capable of being fast and competitive on the track.”

MSF Merdeka Race to feature more than 400 racers, now supported by Petronas Primax

More than 400 car and superbike racers will be celebrating the 67th Merdeka Day with a weekend-long of action on track in conjunction with the 2024 Malaysia Speed Festival Merdeka Race powered by  Petronas Primax from 31 August-1 September 2024 at the Sepang International Circuit.

The high adrenaline race weekend kicks off on Saturday night (31 August 2024) with the MSF MegaLap Time Attack from 7pm to 11pm to crown the driver and car with the fastest lap time around the Sepang Circuit.

The weekend continues on Sunday (1 September 2024) which will see a full day of racing beginning with a 12-lap MSF Superbikes race involving six individual classes with more than 70 racers. This will be followed by the MSF Saga Cup Merdeka 75 which is a 75-minute mini endurance race with two-drivers per car.

The highlight of the racing weekend will be the Merdeka Race – traditionally held in commemoration of national day – which is an endurance race involving 340 racers and 170 cars competing in 6 individual classes of racing taking on 99 laps of the 5.543km circuit.

“We are honored to welcome Petronas into this year’s Merdeka Race which is powered by Petronas Primax. The Merdeka Race has grown into one of the most anticipated annual events on the local racing calendar for enthusiasts due to the diversity of classes being run. With Petronas on board, we hope to be able to elevate this experience and excitement even more for both participants and racing fans moving forward,” said MSF Principal Adian Yein Khalid.

The six classes of racing being contested in the Merdeka Race include: the Rennplatz Standard Production; Rennplatz Standard Production Max; Vision HKS Super Touring; Vision HKS GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup; Super 1800; and MSF Super Production. In total RM50,000 in prize monies is up for grabs for the top three winners in all six classes of racing.

The Rennplatz Standard Production and Rennplatz Standard Production Max classes will be offering the most lucrative prize monies with the champion standing to win a purse of RM6,200 while RM2,950 and RM1,850 will be awarded to the second and third place winners respectively.

The champion in the Vision HKS Super Touring and Vision HKS GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup meanwhile, is looking at a prize money of RM5,700. A total of RM2,950 and RM1,850 will go to the second and third place winners respectively.

A champion purse of RM4,200 and RM1,750 and RM1,050 to the second and third place winners respectively will also be offered in the MSF Super 1800 and MSF Super Production classes.

And for the first time, prize monies amounting to RM1,000 for the champion and RM300 and RM200 for the second and third place winners respectively, will also be offered to the winners in the MSF Superbikes race. The six classes of two-wheels racing includes: Super Rookie; GP X; GP Pro; GP Masters; All-Stars; and Super Sport.

For the MSF MegaLap Time Attack on Saturday (31 August 2024), paddock access passes are priced at RM20 and are available from the South Track Paddock. The evening kicks off at 7pm to 11pm.

Doors will be opened from 3pm on race day on Sunday (1 September 2024) and North Track Paddock access passes are on sale at RM35 while parking is RM10. Passes are available at the entrance to the North Track on race day. Entry to the main grandstand for spectators on both days is free of charge.
