The Lotus Emeya has recently set a new benchmark for electric vehicle (EV) performance at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
In the range-topping Emeya R variant, and piloted by GT driver Daniel Lu, the all-electric hyper-GT clocked a time of 2:20.317—seven seconds faster than the previous record.
The Lotus Emeya R used in this session was a fully standard production unit with no modifications.
First Programme in Southeast Asia
This marks Lotus’s second official Time Attack at SIC, as well as the brand’s first electric performance programme in Southeast Asia.
Malaysia was chosen due to its standing as a key Lotus market in the region, alongside being an ideal platform to showcase Lotus’s motorsport heritage, engineering philosophy and performance DNA.
The PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit is renowned as one of the most challenging tracks in Asia. It combines high-speed straights with fast and slow corners that demand precise acceleration, braking, aerodynamics and chassis balance.
Last year, the Lotus Emira, driven by Malaysian motorsport icon Tengku Djan Ley, recorded a time of 2:27.932.
