Gentari, in collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), has announced the opening of a fast EV charging station at PETRONAS Penchala Link (heading towards Damansara).
This intercity charging station features a 200 kW DC charger equipped with three charging nozzles.
Compared to the existing 24 kW chargers, charging time can be reduced by approximately 20 minutes.
This allows users to charge over 60% of their battery capacity and results in shorter stopping periods.
Gentari’s charging station enhances access to high-speed charging, being the only 200 kW charger within a five-kilometer radius.
This initiative reflects LLM’s strategic corridor planning and its commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s highway infrastructure for the EV era.
The collaboration between Gentari and LLM transforms the function of highways from merely connecting states to an infrastructure that supports intercity EV travel, facilitated by strategic locations aligned with actual travel needs.
EV Connection (EVC), the operator of JomCharge, and Gentari became the first parties to receive licences for public installation of EV charging systems in Sabah from the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS).
ECoS licences are equivalent to the licences issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) in Peninsular Malaysia and are pivotal in ensuring safe installations that comply with safety standards to protect public usage.
EVC and Gentari were also the first parties in Peninsular Malaysia to be licenced by ST.
ECoS is a statutory body established by the State Government of Sabah since 10 January 2023. It operates as the official regulator for the energy sector within the Chief Minister’s portfolio.
The primary objectives of ECoS are to ensure secure, sustainable, affordable, and accessible energy for the State of Sabah.
It plays a pivotal role in shaping Sabah’s energy landscape, promoting responsible energy practices, and safeguarding the interests of both consumers and the environment.
Prior to the licence handover ceremony, ECoS organised a briefing session that was attended by representatives from BOMBA, local authorities, installation contractors, and EV Charge Point Operators (CPOs).

As the number of EVs continuously grows in Sabah, EVC and Gentari are committed to supporting the Sabah EV Charging infrastructure that is required to underpin such growth.
This is in line with the sustainable energy agenda as a strategic initiative stated in the Sabah Energy Roadmap & Masterplan 2040 and also in tune with the federal government’s target of achieving 10,000 public chargers by 2025.

Designed to be the companion for consumers looking to transition to clean energy, Gentari Go is now activated in Malaysia with a regional rollout planned for Southeast Asia and India in 2024.

For those without an EV, the app offers the option to rent an EV through its partnership with GoCar to help consumers make the critical leap from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EV).
Gentari Go also incorporates Gentari’s renewable energy pillar, supported by home energy solutions such as EV home charging as well as solar.
The app is currently available for download via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. In conjunction with the launch, customers can enjoy a 10% discount on their next 10 charging transactions right from the app.
