Lotus Emira 420 Sport: the most powerful, lightest, and most aerodynamic Emira yet

Say welcome to the Lotus Emira 420 Sport, the highest and most extreme variant ever built.

This is due to its more powerful engine package, lighter weight, and improved aerodynamics compared to the existing Emira.

Power up to 420 PS

The new 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo engine now generates an impressive power output of 420 PS at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 500 Nm.

This power is transmitted to the wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 300 km/h.

Enhanced Aerodynamics

The exterior of the Emira 420 Sport features unique characteristics including:

  • Front splitter
  • Redesigned front air intakes
  • Larger air inlet openings
  • Lip spoiler
  • Esprit Turbo-style tailgate louvre

These modifications contribute to improved airflow to the radiator and a 10% better brake cooling performance.

Additionally, the Emira’s suspension setup has been reviewed, lowering the vehicle’s height by 5 mm, which enhances handling.

Lighter Package

The Emira 420 Sport is also available with a Lightweight Handling Pack, which includes:

  • Adjustable 2-way Multimatic dampers
  • Titanium exhaust system
  • Lithium-ion battery
  • Carbon fiber components
  • Lotus Track Performance application

With this package, the Emira 420 Sport is 25 kg lighter than the Emira Turbo and achieves an additional 25 kg of downforce.

Cabin Space

Drivers are now equipped with new carbon fiber paddle shifters and a 12-way adjustable seat that supports both road and track driving.

For the first time, all Emira variants come with a removable glass roof panel.

Inspired by the Esprit, drivers can enjoy both coupe and open-top configurations at any time.

The glass panel can be stored in a special bag and placed behind the seats.

Optional Packages

The Emira 420 Sport is also available with a carbon fiber package for the exterior, including:

  • Front splitter
  • Side sills
  • Wheel arch vents
  • Side pods
  • Rear spoiler
  • Diffuser

Buyers can choose from up to nine rim designs and finishes, including 20-inch satin dark grey forged alloy wheels.

Additionally, two new optional packages can be added:

  • Carbon Fibre Pack – featuring unique geometric finishes on the instrument cluster housing, steering wheel spokes, and rear seat trim
  • Hand Painted Pack – featuring Tangelo Orange accents on the center console, steering wheel spokes, gear shifter, and air conditioning vents

Pricing

In the UK market, the Lotus Emira 420 Sport is priced from £105,900 (approximately RM566,000).

Lotus Type 135: a 1,000+ hp V8 supercar, Esprit successor?

Lotus is reportedly developing a new supercar powered by a V8 engine, currently designated as the Type 135.

The last time Lotus utilized a V8 powerplant was in 2004, the same year production for the legendary Esprit officially ended.

The First Lotus Supercar

The Type 135 is slated to be Lotus’s first dedicated supercar and is expected to launch in 2028.

Within the current product hierarchy, the Type 135 will be positioned between the Emira sports car and the Evija hypercar.

This new model will feature a hybrid V8 configuration with an output exceeding 1,000 hp.

Mercedes-AMG or Toyota V8?

At this stage, Lotus has not released specific details regarding the engine supplier for the Type 135.

Currently, Lotus sources internal combustion engines for the Emira from two partners: Mercedes-AMG and Toyota.

Interestingly, both manufacturers are developing brand-new V8 powertrains set to debut officially this year.

The question remains: which will Lotus choose? A Mercedes-AMG V8 or a GR twin-turbo hybrid unit?

Not the First Lotus Hybrid

Technically, the Type 135 will not be the first hybrid vehicle produced by Lotus.

That title belongs to the Lotus Eletre PHEV, which is already available in the Chinese market with a total system output of 939 hp.

Will the Esprit Name Return?

A major point of speculation is whether the “Esprit” nameplate will be revived for this model.

From a heritage perspective, reviving the iconic name makes more sense than marketing it as an upgraded version of the Emira.

Furthermore, the design is said to draw inspiration from the Theory 1 concept introduced in September 2024.

The Future of the Emira

The Type 135 project is a core component of Lotus’s “Focus 2030” business plan.

In the near term, Lotus will also introduce an updated version of the Emira, featuring an enhanced engine and a weight-reduction program.
