Gentari and BYD Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the development of high-power EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia.

The MoU was signed by Gentari Group Chief Executive Officer Sushil Purohit and BYD Malaysia Managing Director Jacob Ma.

Ultra-fast charging technology

The collaboration covers BYD Flash Charging technology and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to support faster, more convenient charging.

BYD Flash Charging can add approximately 400 km of driving range in as little as five minutes for compatible vehicles under optimal conditions.

Both parties will identify suitable locations, including major intercity routes, while assessing power supply requirements, BESS integration, and technical, commercial and operational considerations ahead of a wider rollout.

The partnership also includes exploring opportunities in renewable energy generation and energy storage.

Target of 30,000 charging locations

Malaysia recorded 53,537 new EV registrations in the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 98.8% compared with the same period last year.

The government is also targeting 30,000 public EV charging locations nationwide by 2030.

Gentari currently operates more than 600 EV charging locations in Malaysia and provides access to approximately 18,000 locations across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and India through the Gentari Go Roaming Hub.
