Omoda X Concept unveiled as an upcoming Toyota RAV4 rival

Chery Group unveiled the Omoda X Concept at the OMODA | JAECOO International User Summit in Wuhu, China.

The SUV is set to compete with the Toyota RAV4.

“Crossvolution” design language

The Omoda X adopts the “Crossvolution” design language, drawing inspiration from the mecha culture of Japanese manga and anime.

This influence is reflected in its angular bodywork, 19-inch three-spoke alloy wheels and sharp LED lighting graphics.

Other exterior features include squared-off wheel arches, all-terrain tyres, aluminium-look underbody protection and roof rails.

Futuristic cabin

The Omoda X promises a “Mecha Command Cockpit” interior, featuring an aircraft-inspired layout and an X-shaped floating centre console.

Equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.2-inch infotainment display and 39 storage compartments.

Dimensions

Measuring 4,654 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,702 mm tall, the Omoda X is similar in size to SUVs such as:

  • Toyota RAV4
  • Subaru Forester
  • Honda CR-V
  • Mazda CX-5

It also offers 200 mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of more than 700 mm.

Towing capacity is approximately 1,800 kg.

Night vision system

One of the Omoda X’s key features is an infrared thermal imaging night vision system, a first for a Chery product.

Usually found in more expensive SUVs, the system is said to detect wildlife and pedestrians at distances of up to 90 metres.

This gives drivers more time to react in low-light conditions.

BEV, HEV and PHEV powertrain options

Power output, battery specifications and driving range have yet to be detailed.

However, Chery has confirmed that the Omoda X will offer battery-electric (BEV), hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations.

An X-Mode system also allows drivers to adjust the vehicle’s settings and performance to suit their preferences.
