Civil servants are prohibited from using the Waze navigation app with immediate effect following a decision by the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) according to Bernama.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar conveyed the directive in a letter dated 20 October 2026, following a JKSN meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

All ministries, departments and agencies have been instructed to inform their officers of the directive and ensure full compliance. Any queries regarding its implementation can be directed to the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA).

Meanwhile, Anwar encouraged the public to use the locally developed TuJu app as an alternative, citing concerns over the security of Waze users’ information and movement data.

TuJu was developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) in collaboration with Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd and launched on 26 November 2025.

Available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the app provides route information, estimated arrival times, toll information and real-time traffic updates. It also offers rest and service area locations, live CCTV feeds and emergency assistance.
