Chery Malaysia announces recall campaign for Omoda 5
Chery Auto Malaysia has announced a recall campaign for the Omoda 5 SUV following an incident that occurred in Johor Bahru last week.
The latest recall affects the C and H variants, with Chery set to inspect and, where necessary, replace any components found to be affected.
According to an official statement, Chery Malaysia is working closely with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in the ongoing investigation into the matter.
Previously, JPJ temporarily suspended the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) certification for the Chery Omoda 5 and halted new vehicle registrations until the technical investigation is completed.
In an announcement made last Sunday, JPJ requested that Chery Malaysia identify potentially affected vehicles based on the following criteria:
- Component number
- Production batch
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- Relevant technical parameters
JPJ will also conduct a technical audit of the vehicle production and assembly processes, covering:
- Compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Quality control systems
- Weld joint inspection procedures
- Safety standards of the components used
For information, the affected Chery Omoda 5 model is no longer being sold in the Malaysian market.
This is because Chery Malaysia has introduced a facelifted replacement model known as the Chery O5.
The facelifted Chery O5 now features a multi-link rear suspension system, replacing the torsion beam suspension setup used in the previous Omoda 5 model.
