Castrol Malaysia recently completed its Discover Borneo expedition, a journey across the states of Sabah and Sarawak.
The seven‑day convoy travelled from Kota Kinabalu to Kuching, covering roughly 2,000 km and passing through major towns including Sipitang, Lawas, Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu.
The expedition was supported by Toyota Malaysia, which supplied Toyota Hilux and Fortuner 4×4 vehicles, as well as King Diesel, which assisted with travel coordination.
Capturing the Soul of East Malaysia
Discover Borneo serves as a storytelling platform to highlight East Malaysian narratives in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026).
Throughout the journey, the convoy team documented the communities, culture, landscapes, and everyday stories of East Malaysia in documentary form.
They also explored scenic routes, local markets, community interactions, heritage sites, and culinary experiences—reflecting the diverse character of Sabah and Sarawak beyond typical tourist trails.
Demonstrating Reliable Mobility
The expedition was powered by Castrol CRB Turbomax with Durashield™ Technology, formulated to protect engines against heat, deposits, and wear.
Its performance stood out during the long journey, which involved hot and humid weather and a wide range of road conditions across East Malaysia.
The convoy also stopped at Castrol Auto Service Sibu for inspections before continuing deeper into Sarawak’s interior.
For Castrol, the expedition demonstrates how dependable mobility enables access and continuity in challenging environments.
Key Moments
One of the key highlights was a visit to the Engkudu Atas longhouse in Sarikei.
There, the convoy team was introduced to rattan handicrafts, traditional musical instruments such as the engkromong, and a variety of Dayak dishes.
Joshua Tan, Head of Marketing for Castrol Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, said, “As a Sarawakian, Discover Borneo is very close to my heart.
“Here, 4×4 vehicles are not just for off‑roading—they are how people work, move, and stay connected.”
He added that driving more than 2,000 km across some of the most challenging routes requires more than just good lubricants, and this is where the Castrol Auto Service network and Castrol CRB Turbomax play a crucial role.
Discover Borneo will be released as a documentary series on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
