Dunlop to focus on replacement tyre and OEM markets in Malaysia
Dunlop is strengthening its long-term presence in Malaysia with a rapidly expanding dealer network, a broader range of tyre solutions and continued investment in products designed to meet the changing needs of Malaysian motorists.
In just a few months, Dunlop has expanded its nationwide dealer network by more than 30%, growing from approximately 150 to over 200 outlets since May 2026. The expansion reflects growing confidence among dealers and automotive service partners as the brand strengthens its nationwide reach.
This latest milestone builds on Dunlop’s long-standing presence in Malaysia. In 1963, Dunlop became the first tyre manufacturer to establish local production in the country, helping lay the foundation for one of Malaysia’s most recognised brands.
Today, under the stewardship of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and backed by the engineering expertise of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Dunlop is focused on making premium tyre technology more accessible while strengthening its position in an increasingly competitive market.
Malaysia’s replacement tyre market continues to evolve as demand grows for products that deliver safety, performance and value across passenger cars, SUVs and electric vehicles.
Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “Malaysia is an important market for Dunlop and we see tremendous opportunities for long-term growth.
“Motorists are looking for products that deliver quality, safety and performance, but they also expect genuine value. That is where we see Dunlop’s opportunity. Our ambition is to establish Dunlop as an emerging premium brand by making premium performance accessible to more Malaysian motorists,” he said.
Marcus said the company’s growth strategy extends beyond increasing its retail footprint.
“We want Dunlop to be available wherever customers choose to purchase and service their tyres, whether through established tyre dealers, automotive service centres or future retail channels that enhance convenience and accessibility. At the heart of our strategy is building strong, long-term partnerships across Malaysia’s automotive aftermarket,” he added.
To support that strategy, Dunlop continues to broaden its product portfolio across key market segments. The range includes the Blue Response TG for everyday passenger vehicles, the SP Sport Maxx 060+ for drivers seeking enhanced performance and handling, and the Grandtrek R/T01 for SUVs and pickup trucks. The company is also preparing to introduce the e.Sport Maxx, developed to meet the unique performance requirements of electric vehicles.
Beyond the replacement market, Dunlop remains committed to supporting its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners, supplying tyres for selected models from leading automotive brands, including Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda and Leapmotor. These partnerships reflect the confidence vehicle manufacturers place in Dunlop’s engineering, quality and reliability.
Recognising the critical requirements of OEM programmes, Toyotsu Binter Malaysia and Sumitomo Rubber Industries are committed to maintaining the highest standards of product quality, supply chain reliability and responsive customer support. By working closely with Dunlop’s OEM partners, the companies aim to ensure continuity of supply while strengthening the long-standing relationships that have been built with vehicle manufacturers over the years.
As vehicle technologies continue to evolve, Dunlop also remains committed to supporting motorists, whether they use the internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, or electric vehicles, with tyres engineered to deliver safety, comfort, durability, and driving confidence.
Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) Pte. Ltd. said Dunlop’s future continues to be guided by the same spirit of innovation that has shaped the brand for more than 130 years.
“Innovation has always been at the heart of Dunlop. Throughout our history, we have continuously evolved alongside advances in mobility, developing technologies that improve safety, performance and driving confidence for motorists around the world.
“Today, our focus extends beyond conventional tyre development. We are investing in next-generation technologies that enhance energy efficiency, improve wet-weather grip, reduce rolling resistance and cabin noise, while exploring intelligent tyre technologies that will support the future of connected and electrified mobility. These innovations reflect our commitment to delivering products that meet the changing needs of drivers without compromising the quality and reliability that define the Dunlop brand,” he said.
With Malaysia identified as a key growth market, Dunlop will continue investing in its dealer network, introducing products developed for local driving conditions, and strengthening partnerships across the automotive aftermarket as it builds long-term growth in the country.
