smart #5 PHEV capable of reaching 1,600 km!

smart, known for its line of electric SUVs, has recently announced the arrival of the #5 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant for the Chinese market.

More commonly referred to as the smart #5 EHD (Electric Hybrid Drive), the #5 PHEV is said to achieve an impressive zero-emission driving range of 250 km, with a total driving range of up to 1,600 km.

It is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that includes a 1.5-liter turbo engine generating 161 hp, as well as an over 40 kWh LFP battery pack from CATL.

Fuel consumption is reported to be as low as 4.4 liters per 100 km.

The dimensions of this boxy SUV match those of the smart #5 electric vehicle version, but it weighs approximately 2,190 kg, making it lighter than the EV version, which weighs 2,450 kg.
