Perodua reduces its price of service maintenance parts, labour by 10%

Perodua is reducing the price of its service maintenance parts, including labour amounting to 10% (terms and conditions apply) in its ongoing efforts to help Malaysians cope with the increasing costs of living.

“The price reduction is based on the maintenance parts price as well as labour costs used by the customer and overall, the customer is expected to save about 10% of their average service bill beginning tomorrow (19 June).

“We welcome our customers to our authorised service centres to find out more on the deal and to use genuine parts so that your Perodua vehicle will continue to remain reliable and efficient when you need it most,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

“We believe that the reduction in service cost will assist our customers in reducing their mobility cost, and we at Perodua, will do our part to give greater value to our customer,” he added.

This campaign includes all models including QV-E, ranging from inspection, parts replacement as well as labour costs relating to vehicle maintenance.

“Based on our internal data, there are more than 5 million Perodua vehicles on the road and we believe that through this campaign, we would be able to better serve a large majority of Malaysians,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

2027 Porsche Taycan debuts E-Shift and Electric Sport Sound

Most electric vehicles are equipped with a single-speed transmission, but the Porsche Taycan comes with a two-speed gearbox as standard.

However, gear shifts are largely performed automatically, meaning drivers are effectively unable to shift manually.

With the update for the 2027 Taycan model, drivers can now enjoy a new feature called E-Shift.

Virtual gear shifting

The new E-Shift function offers a simulation of virtual 8-speed gear ratios.

Interestingly, it can operate in both automatic and manual modes; in the latter, drivers can execute shifts using paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.

In manual mode, drivers can experience the following:

  • a gear-shifting sensation akin to that of conventional cars
  • specific drag-torque simulation that mimics engine-braking effects
  • virtual rev limiting
  • a Porsche Electric Sport soundtrack that changes according to speed and load
  • a virtual RPM display and shift indicator on the instrument cluster

Behind this update, the original gearbox still retains its two-speed ratios.

The new feature is standard on the Turbo GT variant and optional on other Taycan variants.

Range climbs to 700 km

Porsche is also offering low rolling-resistance summer tyres for rear-wheel-drive models (in both sedan and Sport Turismo body styles).

These new tyres add an extra 20 km of range, pushing the total to up to 700 km (WLTP figures) when paired with the Performance Battery Plus package.

More powerful infotainment system

The Porsche Taycan also debuts a Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system that delivers five times the computing power of its predecessor.

All vehicle functions and controls are now consolidated in one place, represented by a 3D Taycan model matched to the body colour.

Just like a smart device, a choice of widgets can be displayed in either a full-screen or split-screen view.

Other features include:

  • Artificial-intelligence (AI) based voice control
  • Google search integration
  • Over-the-air (OTA) updates
  • a 25 W wireless smartphone charging pad (1.5 times faster)

First-ever Manthey Kit for the Taycan

For the first time, the Manthey Kit package previously offered for various GT models is now available for the Porsche Taycan.
It comprises a comprehensive aerodynamics kit, chassis tuning and optimised drive units for increased performance.

Fitted with this Manthey Kit, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package set a time of 6:55.533 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the executive electric sedan category.

The Manthey Kit is available as a retrofit and, for the first time, straight from the factory.

2026 Nissan Kicks officially enters Japanese market with e‑Power and e‑4ORCE

The 2026 Nissan Kicks has officially gone on sale in Japan, featuring the brand’s third‑generation e‑Power system and the option of the e‑4ORCE all‑wheel‑drive setup.

For context, the Japanese‑market Kicks is the second‑generation model, which closely resembles the version sold in the United States.

This makes it entirely different from the first‑generation Kicks available in Malaysia, including the first facelift and the second facelift recently introduced in Thailand.

In Japan, the Nissan Kicks e‑Power is priced from 2,999,700 yen (RM76,774) for the 2WD version, going up to 4,248,200 yen (RM108,728) for the range‑topping e‑4ORCE variant.

e‑Power & e‑4ORCE system

In Japan, the Nissan Kicks is offered exclusively with the e‑Power powertrain, which integrates five key components:

  • electric motors
  • generators unit
  • inverters
  • reducers
  • speed-up drivers

The FWD variant uses a 141 hp electric motor, while the e‑4ORCE version adds a second electric motor on the rear axle producing 67 hp.

A 1.4‑litre HR14DDe engine (97 hp/123 Nm) functions solely as a generator to supply power to the electric motors and recharge the battery.

Nissan claims this new setup is 10 percent more energy‑efficient than the previous system.

Exterior & Interior Equipment

As mentioned earlier, the Japanese‑market Kicks adopts a different design from the one we’re familiar with. It takes after the U.S. model, featuring a wider grille and overlapping daytime running lights (DRL).

At the rear, the SUV sports L‑shaped taillight housings with a layered graphic similar to the DRL signature.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with dual 12.3‑inch displays, a dedicated climate control panel, PRND buttons on the centre console, Zero Gravity seats, and a choice of synthetic leather or fabric upholstery.

Safety features under the ProPILOT suite include:

  • Intelligent Around View Monitor
  • Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB)
  • Intelligent Backward Collision Prevention Support System (IBSI)
  • Backward Vehicle Detection Warning (BSW)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Nissan Kicks Rock Creek

This is the more rugged Kicks variant developed by Nissan Motorsports & Customize (NMC).

It features a distinctive exterior package that includes silver grille accents, black front bumper trim, Lava Red highlights, an aluminium skid plate, and five‑spoke alloy wheels.

The cabin receives water‑resistant upholstery and Lava Red contrast stitching.

Top executive wants Mitsubishi to make a comeback and build great cars like the Lancer Evolution again

Last month, Mitsubishi stunned the automotive world with its plans to revive the iconic Pajero nameplate. The announcement was met with widespread approval from those eager to see the Mitsubishi brand rise again.

After the Pajero, could the Lancer Evolution be next?

During the company’s 57th Annual General Meeting held recently, shareholders also proposed that Mitsubishi bring back other legendary nameplates, including the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant. According to Keisuke Kishiura, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, these three models hold significant importance for the company.

“We consider the Lancer Evolution, Diamante, and Galant to be part of our heritage,” he said.

“At present, we do not have any concrete plans to reintroduce these models. However, our goal is to build a company that is capable of producing such exceptional cars again in the future.”

Could Mitsubishi Return to the WRC?

Another pressing question raised during the meeting concerned Mitsubishi’s potential return to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) as a manufacturer team. Mitsubishi was once a dominant force in global rallying before officially withdrawing from the series in 2005.

Kishiura admitted that rejoining the WRC as a manufacturer remains one of his personal dreams. “As I have already stated, there are no firm plans at this moment,” he explained. “But I want to transform Mitsubishi Motors into a company that can compete on the world stage in major events like the WRC in the future.”

President’s First Car Was a Lancer Turbo

On a more personal note, Kishiura revealed that the first car he ever drove as a student was a Lancer Turbo.

“Personally, I just love driving,” he shared. “The first car I drove in my student days wasn’t actually a Lancer Evolution—it was a worn-out Lancer Turbo, a manual with heavy steering. It was rear-wheel drive, but I adored driving it up to ski resorts. Even now, I still simply love driving.”

Sepang Circuit enlivened by attendance of over 100 electric cars

The Sepang Circuit usually filled with the roar of engines, was brought to life by the presence of over 100 electric vehicle (EV) owners from Malaysia and Singapore.

During the recent Dongfeng Track Day event, participants were given the chance to experience driving on the iconic circuit themselves.

Outstanding Reception

The turnout this year was remarkable, especially compared to the approximately 30 participants recorded last year.

Amin Ashaari, co-founder and CEO of SoyaCincau, stated that this remarkable reception demonstrates the growing interest in EVs.

“This event is not about racing; it’s about giving EV owners the opportunity to experience the track and test their cars’ capabilities. We want to prove that there are no limits with EVs.”

The event began with a parade lap session to familiarize participants with the circuit, followed by four driving sessions, each lasting one hour.

Among the EV brands that participated were BMW, BYD, Dongfeng, Proton, Porsche, and Tesla.

Dongfeng Showcases New Cars

Soh Ming, CEO of Volt Auto Singapore and Malaysia, described their participation as a valuable first experience.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for us to test our cars on the track and collect data for improvements,” he explained.

He also expressed his desire to organize more track events in the future, in line with the brand’s involvement in sports such as football and pickleball in Singapore.

Dongfeng showcased three models: the 007, Vigo, and Box E2, while also offering taxi rides in the 007 model driven by professional drivers.

Participants Express Excitement

Kim Chan, 39, a first-time participant, described the experience as something new.

“It was fun, and I truly enjoyed it. I’ve attended races before, but this is my first time on the track. It also felt strange because it was so quiet.”

He added that the improvement in charging infrastructure has made him consider purchasing an EV as his next car.

Returning for the second time was Ee Sheeden, owner of a Tesla Model 3 Performance, who recorded a time of 2:27.90 in the time attack session.

As the founder of the Tesla modification center Exotic Mods, Ee acknowledged that he is a passionate EV enthusiast and has modified his car for track use.

“I removed the back seat and replaced the rear door with a fiberglass door to reduce the weight by 60 kg.”

Other winners in the time attack challenge included:

Perodua launches UCar-e vehicle rental app at three local universities

Perodua has partnered with three local universities, namely Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology) to introduce an app-based car-rental service designed specifically for students and university staff.

The application, which is called UCar-e (pronounced as ‘You Car”), represents Perodua’s latest initiative under its “Mobility as a Lifestyle” concept, which emphasises transforming the driving experience from conventional vehicle ownership into a more service-oriented mobility solution.

“We are initially providing 50 Perodua vehicles to these universities for use by students and staff, where they can book, access, and utilise the vehicles to travel from their accommodations to lecture halls within university grounds,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

Recently, Dato’ Sri Zainal launched UCar-e initiative at Inasis Perodua, UUM, in a ceremony also attended by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.

He explained that the UCar-e application enables users to locate vehicles parked at designated locations within the campus. Users are also provided with specific parking zones where the vehicles can be returned after use.

“We want to make this experience as simple and hassle-free as possible for students and staff.

“Perodua is also working closely with the respective universities to appoint students to manage the vehicles, including maintaining cleanliness, monitoring fuel level, and ensuring proper upkeep. In return, the student will receive commission-based payments,” he said.

“By responsibly appointing students as vehicle management agents, we are also incorporating entrepreneurship training and exposure for the younger generation, which is an essential life skill,” he explained.

He further revealed that the service is expected to begin in June 2026, with implementation taking place in stages depending on each university’s readiness and rollout schedules.

According to him, the introduction of UCar-e forms part of Perodua’s broader efforts to expand its automotive business through innovative mobility services aligned with evolving consumer trends and lifestyle preferences.

“We realise that many from Gen Zs are more interested in the driving experience rather than owning a vehicle, as the maintenance costs, limited parking availability, and traffic congestion are encouraging them to seek alternative mobility solutions,” he said.
