F1: Sepang Circuit confirmed as host of the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix

Sepang Circuit, Malaysia

After a long wait, the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit is set to roar once again with the sound of Formula 1 machinery this year.

In a joint statement, Formula 1 and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) confirmed that Malaysia will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from 2–4 October 2026.

The decision was reached through a special collaboration between F1, the FIA, the Bahrain government, and the Malaysian government to ensure the race calendar proceeds as planned.

One of F1’s Most Iconic Circuits

For many fans, the Sepang Circuit remains one of the most iconic venues in Formula 1.

Beyond its technical layout and challenging corners, drivers must also contend with unpredictable tropical weather conditions.

The first F1 race held at Sepang took place in 1999, just months after the circuit was officially opened.

Apart from Formula 1, Sepang has also hosted numerous prestigious motorsport events, including Super GT, MotoGP, the Sepang 1000KM, and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

Good News for Fans

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said: “We are pleased to confirm that Malaysia will host the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix.

“Once again, the sport has demonstrated its ability to adapt, find solutions, and deliver exciting moments for all F1 followers.”

He also expressed his appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

“Most importantly, this is great news for our fans. They will enjoy a complete F1 calendar while witnessing the sport’s return to a fantastic venue.

“Sepang holds a special place in F1 history, and it will once again offer an unforgettable racing atmosphere and experience for fans,” he added.
